Hi everyone,

I'm looking for a new 3-9x40(ish) scope. I would like something comparable to the Zeiss 3-9x40 Conquest that I have mounted on another rifle. I would like to keep this new scope under $500 tax and shipping all in. I've debated the Zeiss Terra 3-9x42, but the reviews I've read lead me to believe that it doesn't live up to the older Conquest. I would prefer 3-9 over 2-7, and would like the scope to be on the lighter weight side. Please no Vortex recommendations...been there done that.

I've kept my eyes on the EE for a gently used Conquest, but thus far the stars have not aligned.

So what say you? What have you seen recently that fits the bill?

Thanks everyone,
Cal.

Well I've been shopping around too for one of my rifles, it need some new glass, I came across a few good reads like this one:

The bushnell elite tactical seems pretty good but it's slightly more that you mentioned, but it also is 5-15 here:

htt p://www.cabelas.ca/product/34193/bushnell-elite-tactical-riflescopes?CatId=2238

...Bushnell also continued to expand its presence among the top 50 shooters this year. 10 shooters in the top 50 were using Bushnell Elite Tactical scopes. The Bushnell Elite Tactical XRS 4.5-30×50 was definitely the crowd favorite, with 9 out of 10 choosing that model. In fact, 1/3 of shooters who finished in the top 10 were running this scope. And another interesting fact: more shooters in the top 10 were using Bushnell scopes than any other brand. There were 4 Bushnell scopes in the top 10. Schmidt and Bender only had 3 scopes represented. That surprise anyone? My field test did show Bushnell packed a ton of performance for the price....

I was lucky enough to get a weaver some time ago for ALOT less than they go for now, around 600 for a 1000$ scope for by target rifle...I might go for the bushnell for this other rifle, I would be weary of lower end leupolds as I have heard some bad things...their better stuff is amazing but you wont get it for that price range unless you can get it used.

Also I'm surprised of what you said about vortex...many swear by that brand..was your experience with the crossfire?

Weaver would be a solid choice, I have a couple of their newer scopes and am very happy with them. As for vortex, I wouldn't touch the Crossfire series personally. Diamondbacks I'm not to crazy about either, they would do fine on a rimfire. Vipers are pretty decent for the money.for the money. The Razor series is great, but these are outside of the OP's price range.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I have to admit I know nothing of Meopta scopes, and only know Nikon from their camera lenses. I did come close to picking up a Nikon rimfire a few years back, (can't recall the model), but found the reticle to be overly thick. I guess I've got more research to do.

Thanks again everyone,
Cal.

Perhaps a Minox offering? I have no experience with them mounted but have handled a few. Nice glass, some decent reticle options and solid adjustment turrets.

Bushnell Elite is a decent scope. I own quite a few of them sitting on top 223 all the way to 300 Win Mag. They have never let me down.

X3 on the Nikon monarch. Mine has a bdc and it's super clear and functions great for 500 bucks! No regrets for me

I picked up a Nikon Prostaff at the Bargain cave at the local Cabelas, I have less than 200$ into it, they're regularly $270-ish. I really like it, nice, clear, bright, serviceable, not a lot more to look for!
