Reming 870 Shorty, 8.5" on a fab denfense foldable stock.

I have a Remington 870 Shorty, 8.5". A non restricted 12ga shotgun with the regular butt stock and restricted if you use a pistol grip that comes with it.

I'm just wondering if I will be changing the butt stock to a fab defense foldable stock will make my shotgun classified as a restricted firearm?

The Criminal Code, Part III Section 84(1) defines a Restricted Firearm, in part:

(c) A firearm that is designed or adapted to be fired when reduced to a length of less than 660 mm by folding, telescoping or otherwise.

I don't have either of Fab Defense's folding 870 stocks, but it will definitely be too short in the non-deployed mode. The 8,5" barrel is basically designed to be at minimum length when a standard full butt is installed.

It's not enough to just not fold it; the fact it *can* be folded and fired makes it Restricted.

Various work-arounds include pinning a stock so it won't fold without meaningful tool intervention, and incorporating a trigger block or disconnect so it only fires when over 660mm. The best advice is to use a different stock in most cases.

This is my DLASK 8.5 and Hogue short LOP...Just over 26". I added a sling loop plate later (not shown) and that adds a bit of length as well, but not needed

That's the same as mine except......... Joe modified a Police Magnum for me . He also threaded the barrel for Remchokes and parkerized everything again . I also used a Rem youth stock to keep the recoil from shoving my thumb into my nose . A Chinese fore-end also fits nicely to give a flair at the muzzle end to keep my hand behind the muzzle blast .

I have a Remington MCS forend I picked up, and want to get Casey to fit it to this gun someday.....
