S&W model 19 price range?

Howdy,
It's been a while since I've seen one of these on EE. What's the average price for excellent, clean specimen of S&W model 19 these days? I'm thinking about buying one, but don't want to overpay. Thanks.
 
$600-700? Really, when's the last time you saw a nice clean one at that price on the EE? I have 3 mint in the box blue examples, and a nickel. I wouldn't sell any of them for anywhere near that. I guess for a shooter grade with no box or papers, maybe. Good luck finding an excellent clean one for that price, but as mentioned they don't come up that often.

Marstar has a mint 19-3 listed for $650. I bought an excellent 19-3 from them last month for $625.00. No box or papers, but I think that anything over $700 is high for a Model 19. Not that I am complaining, they are my all time favorite revolver. :)

That's your problem, using the EE as a gauge for reasonable prices on used firearms.

mint new in the box and used good condition are quite a ways apart...
I saw a very nice one for 650 about a year ago and it was gone before i could get it!
 
Well, they introduced the 6 inch barrel in 1963 to the then existing model 19-2, so it shouldn't be too hard to find a restricted version out there.
Minty condition will require luck, patience and an honest seller.

I guess I am out to lunch in general. I had another member explain to me that my mint (probably unfired) Model 28-2 in box with papers was only worth $600 too, and that was being generous on his part according to his Kelly Blue book. Heavy sigh...I guess I'll just have to keep all these fine pistols that I have collected then. A suffering to be sure.

Just keep them if you can. It's not like they make them any longer.

Ding ding ding!! Winner winner chicken dinner. The prime examples with box and papers where possible are going to have a different price curve than good shooter grade. I always wonder why someone would buy a new 'Classic' S&W with the Hilary hole in them, and pay $1000+, when you can get a real classic for less in the same condition, with no MIM parts and some hand fitting, and a much better bluing. Anyway. Collect I shall.
 
You do realize that getting a 19 leads to having to get a 17 correct?

And, no I won't sell you the 17 I bought from you. It matches my 19 rather nicely, thanks.

For me, I got a Model 17 first from an estate sale, which led to getting the companion Model 14 (K38) and that led to a bunch of 19s, a 10, a 15.....and that's just the K frames. The Ns is an even worse situation! I do like the S&W, glad I got the Colts but just can't afford them at this point.

My daughter wants to adopt every puppy out there...I'm kind of that way with nice revolvers! Someday, when I'm gone and they open my safe up and find out how much is really in there....haha
