Well today I decided to go out and try and get myself a meat bear with a Zastava m70 in 8x57 Mauser. Drove up some old pioneer trails hoping to see some bears, those trails didn't work out the greatest today( I see bears often on those trails). I got out on some old logging roads and decided I was going to go to a certain clear cut where bears are known to be there a lot. Coming down that road in the clear cut I spot a light brown bear, the bear was about 350-400 yards, and shot was not the greatest as small trees were in the way. I got off my atv, and started walking down the trail to get in closer. When I got closer I couldn't locate the bear as some bushes and trees have grown in the clear cut up to shoulder height. At that time 3 atv's came up the road and I thought they ruined everything. I had to walk back up the trail and move my atv, as the trail is really small and grown in with bushes.

At this point I was thinking to myself if I don't see the bear anymore, no big deal. When I drove down the trail the bear finally ran out of the small bushes and turned broadside. The bear was about 225 Yards away by now, and got my rifle ready loaded with 180gr nosler ballistic tips @ 2740fts. I got in a kneeling position and was able to put the crosshairs on his vital area, I took the shot and the bullet impacted the bear making a loud slap noise, the bear ran about 40 yards and disappeared, I thought for a moment the bear got away, I walked over to where I last saw the bear and there it was.

It was a large approx. 6'-3", 6'-4" boar weighing around 225-250 lbs. Very nice brown color. Loaded the bear on the atv myself, it was pretty hard to lift him on the atv, but it was done pretty quick that I was surprised myself, I used some technique and some brute strength. I got the bear home and took pictures at home, now I cut him up and will prepare to make some tasty bear sausage and more.

EDIT found the bullet, im rather happy with the performance, hit the ribs, destroyed the liver and ended up in the back leg.

heres a nice cute picture....l0l

Beautiful cinnamon phase, congrats and thanks for posting!
p.s. it might just be my monitor but your face seems a tad smudged :)

Congrats on your successful hunt. Beautiful looking bear. Do you skin out your bears for auction? Wonder what one like that would bring at auction. Would think it would do well on the taxidermy market.

Nice Bear !!!
The momma cat didnt mind the scent of the bear on the kittens?
A G/F cat hated us when we came home from hunting with the scent of the bear I shot...
Anyways, where is a picture of the recovered bullet?
Thanks Again for sharing.

Very nice Cinnamon phase Blackie, my friend!!

He will be a great rug or whatever you decide to do with him. [full mount, hint, hint, lol]

You should be very happy with your success. Regards, Dave.

Nice bear man and 8x57 prove it is great cal.for lots of big game.
Not very favourite among N.American hunters but European wild boar hunters use it a lot.
Zastava probably made over 50% of their rifles in 30-06 and 8x57 last century.
8x57 mostly was popular because in countries of Eastern Europe most of army rifles and machine guns were 8x57 and ammo was not easy to buy in Yugoslavia that produce C.Zastava at that time like in N.America.
Again great bear, hunt and photo as well

Next time put mosquito net to cover your face,
Nobody will recoqnize you but will look much better than face mask you have now.
