I shot my fist round of trap last week. Very fun.
Used my 12.5" barrelled Grizzly, mod choke, ghost ring sights.
I hit the first clay, but only ended up with about 4 total.
I was happy for a first time, but I'd like to do better.
I think seeing how the shot patterns would help. I was using 1 1/8 ounce #8 shot (Winchester Orange TrAAcker).
What else might help?

The best improvement would be to install a much longer barrel, with no sights. Trying to use sights to aim while wingshooting is a handicap, rather than an advantage.

A trap gun is generally described as 12ga, 30 - 34" bbl, weighing in over 8lbs(9-9.5lbs is prefered), with a high rib, adjustable or monte carlo stock that prints a pattern 70% above POA.

When you shoot a shotgun, you don't look at the sights, you look at the target. Your eyes follow the target and your swing will follow your eyes.

When you shoot a rifle/pistol - you look [focus on] at the sights, and the target is in the background.

So, as previously mentioned, get a longer barrel with a front bead only, or any other longer shotgun barrel and take the sights off, and concentrate on looking at the target only.

Obviously you have to lead the targets as well, so don't shoot AT them, shoot in FRONT of them....or as my friend says "shoot where they are going not where they have been".........
