New Type 97? Anyone know any more info?

Fenceline, you can't specifically say - that's fine

Just wink twice if I should hold off on my 2015 purchase and save for the em542 instead

It is in the hand of the lab. As I've been waiting for them a year and a half now for them to tell me I can have my rpd, I won't tell anyone how to budget for the year. The lab runs on their own timeline.

I can tell you that the type 03 and type 05 (em542) have been in the process for over a year (at least), that neither gun are variants of anything prohib (as per the lab) but that the "easily converted to full auto or not" is the issue.

If it takes them that long to decide, they need to get their act together.

daniel_250r you're a buzzkill. ;)

Not want but need type 05. I think the type 05 would cure my hunger for an mp5. I'll take it.
I'd take one of the type 03A too. It's just begging for a proper height stock adapter though. The one that comes on it looks like you'd need a cheek riser just to use the irons. Lol

I really hope Norinco fixes the mag release, safety and most importantly, magwell designs. I found the magwell on my old T97 to be pretty picky. USGI mags, just fine. Gen 2 p-mags were also fine. Gen 3 were almost impossible to insert without a rubber mallet and almost impossible to extract without visegrips. Lar mags wouldn't drop free. That slowed me down too much when playing so I switched to the AR-15 platform. Even with everything working fine, mag changes were a pain due to the mag release position. The long, sloppy trigger can easily be fixed, at least.

No doubt Some of these guns are meant for Canadian market as they come with 5 round mags. It is good to see some new designs these days. I wish I can own a 03 or 05

The AR stock versions should also side fold. Leapers/UTG makes the mechanism if they need inspiration.

Meanwhile people are so quick to screech 'Prohib!' they are blinded to the obvious. In this case, there is ZERO MP5 in that design.
