was just wondering if it was possible to get an ATT to transport to private property for target practice but I think I already know the answer. Also im assuming its allowed if you own the private land that you can shoot your restricted firearms on your property or is that still not allowed?

ok thanks for the answer I find it kind of silly I understand they don't want people carrying handguns around as much as possible but if its your land shouldn't be an issue but that's not for me to decide

If you want to try, you can build a private range on your property and have it inspected for safety regulations to have it approved as a legitimate range. I've never tried, but I'm sure it's possible if you make a few phone calls to your local municipality and police department to ask about how to do it.

I know it's been done before, but it varies on location/township.

I think there is a person in Lumby or Lavington B.C. who is in the process of havin a private range on his property. Check out the Morning Star newspaper, it may be online. I think he is proceeding fairly well.

You do have your restricted don't you? It's all covered in the course. No, you cannot shoot a restricted anywhere other then a range that is authorized for restricteds. That said, yes it's dumb, no i don't agree with it, but it is the current law.

the guy's name is michael o'rourke. his private range is not the "private range" that you're thinking of. he is not building a range on his property for personal use. i am guessing that it is "private" in the sense where membership is required because the article talks about people using that range to sight-in instead of using crown land so it would be safer and rcmp & military using it as well.

Bro check my list of made threads. I made a thread about shooting restricted on PP and it went for several pages and I'm pretty sure it got locked in the end.

Bottom line - You can't shoot a 22 pistol on PP. You can shoot a semi auto .50 BMG. Go figure. It's dumb I know and I've never met a single person that agrees with it but it's the way it is.

That said, I've figured a half decent loophole. Get a USA hunting license (any state) and obtain permission to transport your guns. Handgun hunting is legal in most states. Or at least the ones bordering Canada anyway. Once you've done that, rent yourself out a cabin in the middle of nowhere and have at her. Sure it requires going Stateside to have handgun freedom but it's about the best option you have. Plus you get a vacation out of it.

Edit: also with the authorized ranges you guys are talking about, they HAVE to carry insurance legally. Don't know how much that would cost but I'm pretty sure either joining a range or doing the idea above would cost you less.

On the subject of "authorized approved ranges".

I asked my CFO's office for a list of "authorized approved ranges". I was told they don't have one.

Figure that one out!
