Yesterday at the range a friend was shooting his sks and the pin that only allows 5 broke off allowing he full ten. Just wondering what He should do in this situation. He was look for a 5 round flush mag.

Probably not a good idea to proclaim you're in possession of a prohibited device.

Delete this post, tell no one, order a new magazine or replace the pin.

I think if he's taken the arm out of service and doing everything he can to get it repaired there shouldn't be any legal issue with it but I don't know for sure. It would seem unreasonable to a judge that a guy's firearm broke and he got charged with possession of an illegal firearm while on his way home or to a gunsmith. What alternative would there be for a law biding citizen to correct a faulty safety, trigger or in this case magazine?

Turn it in to the RCMP for proper disposal? :nest:

Admit they're guilty of owning something illegal, then go on a mandatory vacation?
Better to do proper maintenance and check for wear. The law does not provide for repairs, etc. Best thing to do would be to not advertise you own something that will send you to jail. Doesn't matter if it's guns, drugs, whatever. Fix the problem and pretend your magazine neutering device was never broken

I just drilled and tapped a hole in the mag follower. I then screwed in a pan head machine screw (4mm I think) to the appropriate lenth to allow 5 rounds. Then I used a dremel cut off disk to cut the screw tip flush on the face of the follower. I then gave it a quick shot from the mig welder to make it permanent.. then ground sanded blued and... voila.

works great!!

PM me with your cell phone or email and I will send a pic :)

You should upload the pics and maybe we can add this to a stickied thread. Because he won't be the last to ask this.

I will give it a shot.. or I could just send the image via cellphone to someone who is better equipped to deal with the pics ;)

Long day (partly at the range .. woohoo!) so I will take a pic tomorrow as the sks is currently undergoing re-varnishing to the chitty chu wood stock and is conveniently all apart

This happened to my SKS from wholesale sports. First the pin was to large it was rubbing on magazine side and causing the magazine follower to far to one side causing feeding issues, and for it to go above the stop in the receiver and get jammed above it when empty.

So I filed it down, this worked for a few weeks then the pin fell off completely. Then I glued a post(bar stock cut to size) to the bottom of the magazine to limit it to 5 rounds, then the glue broke first time I fired it. Then I soldered a post to the bottom of the magazine, that hasn't failed yet.

OK.. pics are here:

Hopefully they are helpful.. It seems that if the mag follower is more or less flush with the outer mag housing it is the right height ( with my mag at least) as you can see in the pic
