Cooey 64 bolt question

I have a 64A with the old style spring steel extractor. I was wondering if the bolt with the new style extractor is a direct fit to replace mine since after replacing my broken extractor it still does not eject properly.

Im running out of options to get this old girl up and running.

I used to spew nonsense that all 64 bolts were the same, having run a New Savage bolt in an old Cooey (and vice versa). Turns out I was wrong, and there are variations in bolt/charging handles for sure. That also makes me think the firing pins might vary accordingly.

Not certain that'll help much... The extractor cut in the barrel will accommodate both styles of extractor. My own experience doesn't make for a clear fav...the 'ol style bent spring steel extractor runs as well as the newer style. I do prefer the older style's screw retained method, as on newer roll pin retained extractors I've seen the roll pins drop a bit and eat magazines! The ejector cut in the bolt will work with either wire or flat plate style ejectors (I converted one of m'ol Cooeys to flat plate style because I was too impatient to wait a couple weeks for replacement wire style).

Clear as mud?

Other than the general caveats of bolt swapping, there are some variations in the bolt. I don't think the cut in the receiver for charging handle is different, but don't have any newer Savages here to compare with.

Some good 'ol timey 64 advice:
-Keep it clean. Get used to thoroughly cleaning every 500-1000 rds. Once clean, run it dry! Lube only for rust prevention/storage. Every once in a while I'll try some different lube (my soul aches with metal on metal, and it feels plain wrong) then regret it.
-Round nosed ammo. Reports vary on successes. Mine all hate Winchester bulk, but others report theirs love it. Try a few

I've puttered with arf a dozen or so and sure wished I kept notes and photos.

Sometimes the barrel being twisted slightly can cause some grief.
Enough cant to bind things up ever so slightly to cause thorns in yer side.
Over tightening the barrel clamp might not help either.

^ That's a dollar's worth of free advice! The barrel retaining clip will not put the barrel into exact timing. (I eyeball it carefully at the slice in the receiver and make certain the flat on the barrel is level) Over torquing the clip will deform it, or worse strip the threads right out of the receiver.

Solid advice! Thanks every one!

I will check the alignment first, the sight is in proper alignment but that dont mean everything else is i guess!
This gun is new to me and came broken so i really dont know how well it worked before i got it.
A friend at work is willing to let me try his Savage bolt if i cant get it working.

Indexed the barrel again now it runs just fine.
Bulk winchester has a miss feed once in a while but CCI runs 100% I think the Winchester just is under powered and wont move the bolt all the way back to pick up the next round.

So a big thanks for the simple fix suggestions!
