Help: 9 mm Bulgy Loads - Lee Single Stage Press

I concur that this is most likely an OAL problem. CZ pistols are known for having a short throat, but I have never heard of any issues with sizing cases. My CZ 75B has always worked fine with any random brass run through a regular Dillon sizing die.

Sized cases and correctly loaded rounds should drop freely in and out of the chamber.

I would be prone to think seating depth over case bulge. 1.122 can be long in a CZ chamber.

CZ's have short chamber leade angles which stick against the bullet noses if the rounds are too long. All the cases of slides locking out of battery locally I've seen were due to improper bullet seating depth and the resulting OAL issues.

I'm betting the problem is the OAL and not bulged brass.

You guys are all correct. This is why I love this site. :d
I brought my OAL from 1.220 to 1.110 and I can now cycle the cartridges by hand flawlessly.
Thank you so much to all who helped out!!

FYI - Just to close out the thread:

I am loading 3.8 gr Viht N320 behind a 125 gr JHP Zero projectile.
1.220 OAL was not cycling by hand in my SP01 Shadow. 1.110 OAL functions flawlessly.

Thanks again, all.

Good. Problem solved. I also noticed the factor of OAL depending on the type of bullet used. Using round nosed bullet, I do 27.0 mm (1.06") to as much as 28.0 mm (1.10") and this for lead cast/epoxy coated lead cast. With Flat point or Semi-wadcutter, OAL will vary. Otherwise, you will notice keyholing assuming you do not get feeding issues.

Questioning ammo, try getting a felt pen and ink a cartridge then drop it in- anywhere it's binding will rub the ink off and show you very quickly where the problem is.
Did you notice any changes at the chrono after the change?

We've all had these issues reloading! Sadly I load two lengths of 9mm, 1.10" for everything I own except for my STI Trojan which likes 1.15". I use a calibre gauge to randomly check my reloads to ensure proper size while I'm at the press. I had too many rejects using a standard set of 9mm dies and found that with the addition of a taper crimping die as my last stage that my rounds are now 99.9% spot on.

If I am shooting a match I gauge every single round that I bring to the event, this takes one potential failure element out of my performance. Plenty left though...
