Finally sighted my 455 in this afternoon at a friend's rifle range, then went out and smoked a few cute little gophers. I shot a mix of Hornady and Winchester. The rifle wears an old Burson variable power scope. The 17's sure chew up a gopher! G:

My friend has some real expensive target rifles of various calibers, and when I finally convinced him to try the CZ 17, he was impressed. Dollars to donuts he'll have one on order before long. :p

Speaking of 17 HMR what's the availability of ammo, I ask as the local dealer where I am from is turning away ppl from owning a 17 hmr calibre rifle because of an apparent ammo glut..

Yeah, I'd have to agree, there is a glut. In Edmonton, it's everywhere. Lots of Federal & Hornady stuff in 17gr & 20gr. Why would someone discourage the calibre if there is so much ammo to be had?

That doesn't make sense. Almost sounds like a gov't law. :p

Perhaps in some places the word "glut" means something other than surfeit or excessive supply. On the other hand, maybe the local dealer was turning people away from .22LR rather than .17HMR.

I got my 17HMR 455 out this weekend too. It really does make a mess :D

Love the sound of a hit though :p

Kind of a mix between a schwack and a thump.. :)

Heard that sounds lots yesterday.

17hmr is pretty scarce here in Calgary. (just means the .243 win comes out more to play)

Wow! :runaway: Those are beauties. I only have one 452FS in .22. My friend keeps trying to pry it away, but I assured him it has a good home now. :p

I don't have a 455, though I do own 453 17HMR American. Thousands of gophers and dozens of rimfires later, there is no better rimfire for gophers!
It's reasonably short, light, has 10 shot mags, super accurate, and not so expensive and rare that I cry about dings.
I do or have owned: 10/22, 9422, 52, Mauser, Walther, Anschutz, Izhmash, Savage , Browning, Remington to name a few. And nothing is better suited, effortless and downright fun to use as the 453 HMR.
I'm not claiming it's the all around superior rifle by any means, but it's perfectly suited to the gopher game.
