Is there a list anywhere of all the AR-15 style rifles that are on the market in Canada? I apologize if this is already out there, but I have been searching and unable to find one.

Also, if anyone has recommendations of the best value AR-15 rifle currently, please chime in.

Kind of hard to answer that one. Some people want tradition in their rifle (Colt) while others quality. Name brand is important to some and functional, cheap ones may be preferred. There are a LOT of AR style manufacturers out there.

Okay, how about top 5 most popular models?

Colt Defense, Colt Canada, Bushmaster, Norinco, Alberta Tactical, Dominion Arms, Cadex, Aero Precision, Palmeto State Armoury, Troy, DPMS, Motiuk Manufacturing, Remington, Sig Sauer, Blue Line, Armalite, Eagle Arms, Stag, Rock River Arms, Daniel Defense, Spikes, Noveske, Olympic Arms, ATI, Sabre Defense, Alexander Arms, LMT, North Eastern Arms, Windham Weaponry, Anderson Manufacturing, Omni...

Too much information! :p Seriously, though, can anyone recommend just a few models to look into?

But I wasn't done yet. There are more available haha.

There are billet, forged and polymer. Forged builds have forgings from about 3 to 5 different forges, which manufactures buy and then finish to their own specs.

If you buy a milspec forged gun, you'll be fine.

Really, to answer a "few models to look into" requires more information from you.

What are you looking to spend, what are you looking to do with your AR, and what calibre do you want (which relies on what you are looking to do).

If you just want it to go bang then try norinco. If you want one to defend yourself against the zombie apocalypse then try a noveske. Figure out your budjet and what you plan to do with your rifle and it would be easier to steer you towards your desired goal.

The question that I would ask you, is what qualities do you value? If you value a low price, then the recommendations may lead you down one path (Norinco or S&W M&P15 for example.) If you value a balance of quality and price, then the recommendations may lead you down another path (Daniel Defense, Colt and Sig come to mind). If you value quality above all else and are willing to pay what it takes, then maybe an ATRS AT15 is what you are looking for. Finally, if you place a value uniqueness, then maybe your best option is to build one to your specific criteria.

Even as you go in one direction or another, there are still a multitude of ways to customize your AR15 (Trigger, optics, accessories, etc). Prices can range from around $500-600 to as much as you are willing to spend.

My suggestions at a few price points:

$600 will get you in the game with a Norinco... Cheap, a little rough, but they run.

$1000 will get you a CORE15. American made, solidly build, lifetime "no BS" warranty.

$1500 or so will get you a Colt or Daniel Defense. Very well built.

More (sometimes lots more) will get you bling like KAC, Noveske, Colt Canada.

You can save a few bucks finding them used on the EE. Some good deals, some overpriced.

Wish I could support a Canadian manufacturer, but I must warn you off NEA. Too many bad reports for my endorsement.

My budget is pretty modest, so something a little better than a Norinco but still not super expensive. I will look I to the Core rifle mentioned.

Maybe a S&W M&P15? While not my cup of tea there have been some lower-priced DPMS rifles around lately, too. If you can get up to the $1000-$1200 range a lot more opens up.

I certainly suggest the CORE ahead of DPMS or S and W. They're built very well and as I said, have a true "No B.S." lifetime warranty. I find their build quality and finish is superior to either of the others listed in that price range.

Wanstalls and deal with CORE, but it seems that all they have are piston guns in stock. That adds to the price, and IMHO the piston is a solution to a problem that doesn't exist.

I Don't know about other stocking dealers.

Good luck!

Windham Weaponry. Great firearm, near the lower end price wize. ($999-$1500) LIFETIME TRANSFERRABLE WARRANTY. Decent stock trigger, many different configurations availiable.
