S&W M-624 .44 Spl. recalls

Just been made aware of an authorized S&W recall notice specific to S&W M-624's chambered in .44 Special. The recall has to do with the cylinders having been manufactured from sub-standard stainless steels that did not heat treat to specifications thus rendering the cylinder's strength as questionable and quite possibly dangerous to the shooter and/or bystanders. I have confirmed this with a S&W customer service rep. as being in the serial number range of AHB55XX, made from Jan.1-1985---June 8-1985.
So it's now going to Murray Charlton's for inspection.
I sincerely hope no one else has one of these M-624's but should you have one I seriously urge you to contact S&W's customer service at 1-800-331-0852 and have your serial number handy for a confirmation.

Slow down and stop please? Did you even look for the "F" stamp on back of the cylinder?? This denotes it's been through the recall and A-Okay. Or the red "C" in a circle on the box signifying it's A-Okay as well. How about sharing that kind of important facts before freaking everyone else out??

Just as this info has only come to my attention in the last day or so as did the M-624 only come to me a few months ago, unless one were watching for recalls of this type how would one ever acquire this info?
I thank you for the heads up on the "F" stamp on the back of the cylinder and the red "C" designation on the box (which I do not have possesion of) and will make that visual check. Had I been aware of this, I would most certainly have shared this info as well but after having said that I did have a conversation with a S&W customer service representative, one would think that the S&W rep' would have shared this info with me also, but that did not happen.
My intent here was not to spread panic but rather simply bring it to the attention of anyone having a M-624 who was also unaware of this issue.
This was simply a friendly heads up and nothing more.
Again thank you for your contribution as any and all info on any firearm with a manufacturing defect or anomoly is greatly appreciated when shared.
 
^The implications are tremendous for you jakepine. Because recently they have even dropped from their Classic line, in the blued and nickel plated Model 24. The 624 is long discontinued. Spare parts will be problematic for you, because if you revolver cylinder fails X, Y or Z non-destructive test, they will have no choice but take the firearm in for disposal and offer the unlucky client whatever new factory revolver (maybe a 629?) in replacement.

You can gleen this information off the web by google search of American gun forums.
I hope I'm wrong. But exactly this has happened in the past.

I am very curious why they did not share important information and the very basic details, that could have excluded your revolver before shipment?

Niether did the previous owner or gun dealer huh?

Just to update the post, I have just found the "F" stamp on the cylinder's breach face and as you had so pointed out, it does appear to have been assessed and passed.
Again I thank you as had I not put this FYI out there, I might not have been informed of this condition which again one would think S&W would be on top of this and would have this info out there for the firearms community to share.
So I will take this situation and learn from it.

No offense taken as your point was and is valid and relevant and your input and contribution to my situation was most appreciated.
Yes I also wondered why the S&W rep. did not make that info available to me as well the original owner is now 92 years young and likely has no recollection of the incident because he now suffers from dementia.
So suffice it to say all the uncertainty about this recall and my specific serial numbers have now been dealt with and the 624 is back up for grabs. I have far too many 12-6's in my vault with not a one that may be 12-7 eligible so I must keep a lower inventory of prohibs as the numbers of grandfathered gunny's are rapidly declining, so sad to say and thus the market is now a very limited one.
