Bought a Norinco 12" barrel that was threaded for chokes, but I don't know what thread or if its mod, imp etc

My rem choke does not thread in and my invector tool does not line up with the slots.

I messed it up a bit getting it out and would like to buy a mod and full for it

Any help would be appreciated.

If it is a factory choke tube, you can go to the Briley or Trulock web site and they will tell you what tubes "should" fit. Assuming it is a .725 bore barrel and that your measuring device is accurate ... the choke is approximately a .025 choke, which most would classify as an improved modified choke.

Thats the problem, Its a Norinco barrel that was threaded by a gunsmith somewhere.
I bought it off the EE thinking it was a modified restriction and winchoke thread, which should be the same as a Browning Invector, but my wrench has 4 slots where this choke has 2

I had the same issue once and didn't know what choke tube was really in the barrel, I went to the local gun shop and they had a basket of old choke tubes from trades in and the likes. So I went through the basket until I found one the same and it had a tag on it telling them what it was from. Mystery solved ! maybe you could try that.

To my eyes that screams Colonial thread form for an M37/M87 Ithaca of King's Ferry, NY or Sandusky, Ohio manufacture. As the choke wrench is two slot, just like your example here. IIRC, there also was a now defunct(?) company that made these for Ithaca as well called Caption(?)

I am by no means an expert. But I observed some similarities with my M87 Turkeyslayer, circa 1997 or thereabouts. Of course mine is extra full, but it's outside is identical to your's.

cheers

Edit: Colonial is still in business. I suggest you contact them ASAP.

Colonial tubes are used by a lot of gunsmiths, so, as Brutus says, they would be your best option. I have a bore gauge, if you want to check that part of the equation and I live in Woodstock.

Looks like a Baikal, with a single notch for constriction identification. (Full choke)

Thats a full choke.

Google choke tubes compatabilities.. a whole bunch of them share the same chokes, especially guns manufactured in Turkey..

I had a Weatherby SA 08, and the chokes didn't have any markings on them. Used the old "notches on choke" method. And then tested the constriction at the range

It looks like a Mossberg/Invector/Winchester choke tube to me. The number of slots to remove it doesn't mean much really, just that you need a different wrench. A single small cut in the end means it's a full choke, two is improved modified, three is modified, etc.

It was a Mossberg/Invector/Winchester style choke
