start the small story off last fall, we where up in north east AB looking for an early season velvet buck and stumbled across a huge black bear, I would estimate he would easly have been over 500lbs and 7' a true once in a lifetime bear. my wife and myself snuck into a 100 yards while he fed on clover and she lined up and shot over his back, he was back in the bush before I could fire off a round from my rifle. To say she was heart broken was an understatement. she carried that miss with her all season and all she wanted was a big bear when we headed north to our camp this spring.

We had left home at 6am made the 9 hour drive to camp off loaded the cargo trailer and headed out for the first evening hunt. After a 20 min drive we stoped at our first look out point on a brand new pipeline. I spotted him first through my binos at about quarter mile away. seeing good color I figured we better get closer for a look to see his size. After a 20 minute stalk we where 75 yards away and with one well placed shot with the 270wsm 130ttsx it was game over. Walking up to him I knew he was good but when I rolled him over we found hime to be one of the greatest furred up bears we have ever come across. even his pits you couldnt see his skin. She got her bear of a lifetime and I got a bill for a full body mount haha. I feel its a good deal in the end to see her accomplish her goal. 6' on the carcass and about 6.5 skinned. short stubby nose will keep him in the 18" skull bracket.
Enjoy

Nice bear. Congrats for sure. Also hope you enjoy bear meat. My son arrowed a 425 pounder a few years ago - made for a great rug but they were glad when the last of the meat was finally gone. :)

That is not typical... bear meat is highly esteemed around these parts.

I didn't mean to imply they don't enjoy bear meat. An 800 - 1000 lb. moose will usually get shared amongst several and venison will come in smaller amounts. Even a 200 lb. bear is great - it's just that a 425 lb. bear makes for a lot of bear meat for one family.

That's a great looking woman.. Ops I ment bear!

But honestly that's a great lookin bear which I hope to someday harvest one like that. :)

I guess having your buddy wearing flip flops while bear hunting takes care of the " don't be the slowest guy in the group" theory of bear defense..... :)

Nice bear, same hair coloring as your wife.
