Lakefield Mossberg Restoration Project - The Wedding Present!

Hi All,

First, a bit of a story - My little brother is getting married this summer, and I'm on a mission to get him a wedding present better than dishes... (?)

Now, at first glance this seems like an easy task - after all, I'm posting on a gun forum (and he already has a PAL) - but I like to set myself a reasonable challenge. My family moved to Lakefield around the time of my birth - and I remember as a kid driving and cycling past the Lakefield Arms factory - despite the fact that my brother now lives outside of Toronto, and I live near the national capital, Lakefield will always be our home.

Of course, I need to 'restore' a Lakefield shotgun for him (and ideally one for my younger sister too!)

So I'm starting this project with an appeal for help - If anyone has a lead on a 12 gauge Lakefield Mossberg 400G (or 3...) please let me know!

(Insert shameless WTB EE plug...)

I will be updating this thread as progress is made.

Thanks,

Matt

This is the first shotgun I ever got - LAKEFIELD MOSSBERG made in Canada 400G 12 GA . I put a ATI Mossberg 500 pistol grip with collapsible stock on it.

I just restored my Lakefield Mossberg last year - it was given to me as my first shotgun, so unfortunately for you I shall not part with it. Good luck with your search

I see 2 Lakefield 400g's on the EE. They're asking pretty strong money for them...

I'd seen the one, but not the other... $300 is just a bit on the steep side...:sok2

Understood - I wouldn't part with it either :)

I've got a 20g 500g made in Lake field cut the crappy plain barrel down to 18" and she is fun to shoot the thing never quits. Was my Ma's gun so she ain't going no where.

Good luck on your search!

I didn't take a lot of before and after pics, but the original stain on my 400 was flaking off, the action was worn and scratched, and it was overall in need of a tear down. After several weeks of sanding, staining, bluing, and Tru Oil coats, I completed its transformation. The shotgun had spent most of its life in a duck blind, so I thought it was fitting to refurbish it as such (the original owner quite likes what I did with it).

How I got it:

How I refinished it:

I was prepared not to like it - honestly I love it. That's the nicest stained came job I have seen. Nice work!

Thanks. It took a lot of sanding, multiple light/dark coats of different stains, more sanding, then many coats of Tru Oil. It was a great project to learn that I don't want to do that again unless I have a few months to burn. ;)

Hey guys how much is the Lakefield-Mossberg L395K 12GA with the C-lect choke (adj. choke) worth? in good condition.

Never heard of a Mossberg L395, I didn't know Mossberg made bolt action shotguns - do you have any pictures?

I can tell you I paid $125 for a surprisingly good condition CIL 674 (a re-branded Mossberg 500), and bolt action shotguns don't seem to sell for much...

$150 in excellent condition, good condition - maybe $125. The problem with these shotguns is the low capacity 2rd mags that you can't find anymore... Nice shotguns but not worth very much.
