I have an SKS that i want threaded 14x1mm LH on the muzzle so I can attach an AK style brake. I tried ordering decent dies and pilots off the internet so i could do it myself, BUT none of them can be shipped into Canada :(

So im looking for a gunsmith that can do this for me, in Calgary and area ?

Pretty sure Torfi @ the shooting edge can do it, he's knowledgeable on AKs and Sks's.
He installed and a2 birdcage on my Type 97, 1/2 28 TpI.

My Sks has the metric 14/1mm LH but it was done in BC by an amateur smith I believe.

No threading die no matter haw good " the pilot" is can thread the barrel concentric to the bore.
That threading need to be done on lathe and any machinist or gunsmith can do it.

thanks i'll give him a try, i already asked Shooting center... but the gunsmith there said he couldnt thread 14x1mm :/

So does that mean the gunsmith has to remove the SKS barrel to put it in the lathe ? ... cus that sounds expensive

With a lathe that will cut metric threads.....

Left hand isn't an issue.

Removing a SKS barrel can be an adventure all by itself.

The receiver could be held in a 4 jaw chuck, indicating in the breech of the barrel for concentricity. Ideally, the muzzle should be indicated in on the bore, and the brake bored to appropriate size while on the barrel; this assures that the brake bore is concentric with the barrel bore.

In this case, the brake is no doubt a finished one with an oversized passage through it. The muzzle could be supported on the live tail center while the threads are cut. Less precise, but workable.

I got a quote from Shooters edge, the gunsmith said he could do it, but it would involve a lathe, which involves exactly what you said, around $300 to thread an SKS muzzle. BUT considering im currently running a sloppy pin on NCstar brake on my SKS, and it still shoots 2MOA; Im thinking my application warrants just a good die and pilot.

CNC Warrior in the US sells the tools and does ship to Canada. You just need to email them the tool numbers you want and they send you a shipping quote and total price. I found it easiest just to call them. All you need to thread the muzzle of the SKS is a TAT (thread alignment too) and the die and die wrench. The OD of the barrel is already well within specs for 14-1mm threads. I've done a few, it's easy if you take your time and follow the instructions they have on their website. You can also get TATs from a seller on ebay, he will kame any size and thread pitch you want. Seller is anappa and his store is NTC Trading Co he sells dies and die handles as well. Very good to deal with.

hmmmm i originally tried ordering their set, but upon selecting it, it said it was unable to ship to Canada, I emailed them before that and they have never got back to me :/ ive also tried NTC off amazon and they couldnt ship it either. Its just a threading set, it shouldnt have any problems getting across the boarder. I will give CNC warrior a call tomorrow. i originally wanted to get the set instead of sending it off to the gunsmith, that way if the die is of good enough quality, i can thread more SKS's in the future.

Any machinist or competent gunsmith.
