So I put the cart before the horse....well...before I even bought the cart, and decided on going for my restricted. Not loads of cash to spend...right now...so I've decided to delve into the .22lr catagory. I already bought a couple thousand rounds of cheap win 22lr's, and fondled a cheap Browning buckmark UFX(?). It felt good in the hand, my left hand mind you, and the price was right at $380 plus tax. But of course, I'll be looking a used one, again to keep the costs down, ergo, keep the wife happy!

I would only be looking at shooting a half dozen times a year, and getting my daughter into the sport, although she has already pheasant and duck hunter a few times, who would'nt like shooting a pistol.

Good for you. Its a great thing to do with the family. Keep your eye on the EE for a quality used .22 pistol. Buckmark is a good one, so is a Ruger MkII or MkIII.
 
Buckmarks are recommended by many, and if it fits you well, great. With a little patience, luck and good timing, you should be able to snag a used one at a good price.
 
I hear nothing but good things about the Browning Buckmark, but I do not own one. I have a Browning 1911-22, which is an excellent little gun. Shoots well in my big hands, and is small enough for younger kids. I believe it is 75 or 80% the size of the standard 1911. My favorite thing about this gun is that it fires any 22lr I have tried in it, and out of probably 10,000 rounds, have never had any issue whatsoever, other than a few failure to fires on the Winchester M22, but that is a fault of the cartridge, not the gun. Keep in mind that once you take your kids out with the 22 pistol, you will go through a lot of rounds in a very short period of time. After 1,000 or 1,500 rounds, my kids are still unhappy to leave the range.
 
Thanks for the heads up! I didn't want to be one of those hoarder guys so I only bought a half dozen boxes of the lr's. Maybe I should go back and buy a bunch more, now that I think about it. I can always use them in my gear semi I guess.

Don't let anyone kid you, we're all a bunch of hoarders. So go back and clean them out, guilt-free!:d
 
I have a Buckmark Camper in SS, it's the most fun of all the pistols I have shot, feels great in the hand, accurate and it will shoot anything I feed it. I have had and shot others, but, the Buckmark is the keeper.
 
I'm in the same boat. Not tons of cash to spend and itching to get a pistol and go shoot. After a few false starts and other things in life taking up extra cash, it looks like I may be able to snag a gun next month :dancingbanana:. I'm thinking Buckmark or GSG 1911. That is if I don't talk myself back into getting a 9mm. And in my case we don't have kids but I have a wife who's very interested in shooting pistols as well. So may have to get two new guns before long :d

I have the Buck Mark Camper in SS as well and I agree with Curly1....it's hassle free and accurate....... a keeper for sure.
 
Yikes! What have I got myself into? OK anther trip to the gun store required. I hope the handgun bug isn't anything like my shotgun virus!

Plus, with the Buckmark, you don't need a degree from M.I.T., before you can fieldstrip and clean it!:rolleyes:
 
I would not turn my nose up at a S&W 22a either. I shot one for a while and it was a reliable gun with good accuracy. And they cost enough less than the others that you won't have to feel guilty for buying new.

One thing for whatever you buy. Some semi auto guns tend to prefer the rounder nose bullets over the more square'ish noses of rimfire hollowpoint ammo. So when ammo shopping I tend to buy the regular round nose since I'm only "hunting" paper and flat steel animals.
 
There are currently available Beretta Model 71's that have been used and were originally fitted with a prohib length barrel, they have been fitted with a 6 inch barrel and can be had for about $350.00 + TX.
Ask anyone that has one how they like it.
I had a Buckmark Camper which I swore I would never sell but then this trade offer came along and I had to do it.
I was really pleased with the trade but there was a hole in my collection which needed to be filled so when I saw the 71 I knew this was what would fill the gap.
Great little gun , accurate, reliable and breaks down really well for cleaning.
