Thx for your help.

What is it you are trying to do? Change the caliber of your existing T3?

All T3's, with the exception of the T3 CTR, have long action receivers and bolts, no matter what cal, short or long action.
Can you be more specific about what you need to do?

Looking into buying a cheap used T3 lite stainless and adding a quality. 308 barrel from the ee. Thx for your help popcan.

That's exactly what I was wondering. I can't just buy a 223 or 270 T3 lite and ask a smith to install a blank barrel .308 right?

The bolts are sized for the cases base - 308 family is all the same, belted mags are the same, and 223 is the small bolt face. I am not sure where the 270/3006 fit in the picture.
However, to switch from long to short action, you simply change the bolt stop and mag. That way you can load long seated rounds - or longer SA rounds in a LA bolt/mag. It is a simple (but $$) gig. Mag and bolt stop will run $100-150.

Your looking for anything based on the .308: 260, 7mm-08, .284, 6.5x284, 243, 6.5 Creedmore, 22-250, 6.5x47. If I were you I would find one with the same bolt face as a 308 but in long action. This way you will all Ready have the bolt stop in the rifle that will allow you to seat the bullets long. And at least one mag or whatever it comes with. 30-06, 270, 6.5x55, Plus a few others but the ones I meantoined are the common ones you will see for sale.

A tikka in 270win will have the same bolt face as one in 308. The only difference in that case would be the bolt stop. Swap out the long action bolt stop for a short action one and your set. Or you can choose to use it as a long action and not be worried about mag length restrictions.

T3 CTR's have what they call a "medium" length action. Not a full sized long action like normal T3's. I'd have to measure mine to give you the exact spec....

ACTION T3 / MEDIUM MT Dimensions Total length (mm) 1020 Barrel length (mm) 510 Weight (kg) 3,4 ACTION T3 / MEDIUM MT CALIBER / RATE OF TWIST / NUMBER OF GROOVES 260 Rem / 8” / 4 • 308 Win / 11” / 4 •

First group, lower left, is some factory 150 grain Federal. Perfectly acceptable hunting accuracy.
Second group, handloads - it likes the heavier bullets!

No that's fine, I was just curious. Thanks for the info.

Correct me if I am wrong here guys, but all T3 actions are the same length, the short-medium-long designation comes form the length of the bolt stop only and the MT designation is in regards to barrel length only the way I read it. All the magazines have the same external dimensions as well, but as COAL shortens, the factory adds a block in the back of the magazine to shorten it up.

Like I said, please point out my errors if I am off base here. Thanks.

This is what I've seen in the past to be true. Sounds like now the CTR is shorter from what I read above.

Now I want to measure my CTR against my T3 Hunter to confirm, cause I don't know the exact spec... But just looking at them I'd swear the CTR is shorter.

im away from my rifles right now. Anyone else care to measure and report back?

All Tikkas have the same dimension action. Only diff is the bolt stop and magazine between the action "lengths."

Tikka is specifically known for this, using one action size for all models and cals.

I'm willing to bet a dollar that it's the same length as the others but I've been wrong before.
