Magwells on 1911s?

Just curious. Do you like them or not? Assuming you are not doing any competitive shooting that requires rapid mag changes, would you still want one on your gun?

I have average size hands but I like how they extend the grip if only a little (particularly the S&A type). I gravitate towards guns that have them, and if they don't, a magwell is usually the first thing I add. I was wondering why they are not more prevalent. I get the cost issue for less expensive models (though the SAM thunderbolt has them), but they are not stock items on many mid to high end guns, which is unfortunate it you want one that is properly blended. Was curious if there were drawbacks, or if you think it is more of an aesthetic issue (and not talking about speed shooting).

I have one on my gsg but only becouse I was keeping it as close to my .45 that I used for competition. I like the way they look even if their not blended to fit and will continue to use them even if just for the aesthetics of it.
 
Added one to my Kimber this month, Never really even thought about one before and I do use the gun for competition, A world of difference its made, I also added the arched mainspring housing and grips the same day, Completely changed the feel of the gun, Had it for 8 years and I feel like its new, I still want to add an extended slide release and oversized mag release.

Only con I see with them is if your using mags without bumpers you actually have to thumb the mag up.

 
i added one to my SAM tactical and my new SAM came with one.
i am becoming partial to them.
im gonna add one to my Kimber here pretty soon i think.

I like them but if you do not compete like me its more on aesthetic . Custom 1911 looks unfinished to me if no magwell, except the milspec. I am in the market of my next 1911 and I'm leaning on the Wilson combat because of the magwell. Also have a collection of VZ grips all of them are bottom cut for magwell.
 
Found an issue with mine last night, My ACT mags wont work with the magwell, the base bumper is too wide so Iam going to have to shave them down, Looks like a pistol above is using the same mags and magwell and it seems to be working for him though
 
Actually, I'll buck the trend. I don't like them, not all of my mags have bumpers and I prefer to shoot 7rd mags so I don't have anything hanging below the handle. I've never felt the grip lacking in length and it wasn't something that JMB wished to incorporate so it must not be in my mind. ;)

Most 8 round mags are flush fit, just take off the bumper, 7 rounds is so 1990!
 
Single stack magazines with no bevel what so ever is a minus even if it came from JB's mind.
It didn't take him that long to move onto double stacked mags and beveled metal.

I bet JB would approve of mag wells......

Do some of you guys think it's nutz to bevel the metal on a non magwell 1911?

I'm a fan of easy and the mags go in easier with, bevels, double stacks or magwells.
