Best red rifle!

The best red rifle is a red rifle rebuilt by the Finns. The M39 was the best of the best, all you needed to do was pick one up and feel the balance and the smoothness of the action and you knew. Then shoot it and you are convinced.

Ok, I'll play......

In order of preference - and sticking to WWII and earlier rifles first.....

SVT-40
M-44
91/30

They all get shot at targets though, usually on the same range day. :d:d:d What I really like about them is they're relatively inexpensive, shoot cheap ammo, and all have stories to tell - given a chance and a tongue (they're all WWII manufacture - the SVT is a '43, the M-44 is a '44, and the 91/30 is a '39 - I'm sure they all fired rounds in anger at Axis soldiers).

For the post-WWII rifles, again in order of preference

CZ858
SKS

Both shoot cheap ammo, are reliable, and fun to shoot. The SKS is what I usually introduce new shooters to, after the 22LR rifle.

SVT 40's are overrated.... for $300, it is still a must have. But in most cases, when it comes down to best Canadian available red rifle, i'll grab the SKS (modified) out of my gun safe before id grab an SVT.

I'll wager that could be duplicated with a stripped stock and a propane torch....

You'd lose that bet unfortunately. Whenever some sees that rifle they go "propane torch, this and that, blah blah." We all know thst high scool shop class trick.
Except, the degree of the fade into lighter wood is too multi faceted here. The grain flows uninterrupted throughout too. It's not just black burnt carbon stripes.

sks for me. ammo is cheaper. it's more rewarding to me than shooting my .22 is. I love knowing that the damned thing will likely outlive me.( already has, since it's older i guess)
