I'm building out an NEA Stripped AR-15 lower and am a little confused.

All AR assembly instructions i've read online show the Takedown Spring and Detent hole drilled horizontally from the rear of the receiver beneath the buttstock, however the NEA lower i'm building out doesn't have a hole drilled here.

Instead it looks like it has a hole drilled vertically downwards from within the Takedown Pins main hole.

Is this normal? I can't figure how i'm going to manage to get the spring and detent installed into that if so. I also can't seem to find this setup anywhere online.

Thanks in advance for the feedback.

Thats your safety selectir detent
WRONG, look at the picture.

Don't confuse the selector detent hole (Vertical)and the takedown detent (Horizontal) hole.

NEA does it a little different, all the same parts work you just put them in the other hole and align the grove in the takedown pin downwards instead of towards the back. Your pistol grip holds the safety and takedown pin springs instead of just the safety detent spring.

Just take your grip off and feed in the parts from the bottom. It isn't that complicated.
I actually prefer this method as you can remove your buffer tube and all you have to worry about losing is your buffer retainer and spring when you start to thread out the buffer tube.

Yup, I found this out from a friend's NEA lower. I though he was on crack at first. That was the first time for me seeing a takedown pin detent located there.

Perfect, CR5's response led me to remove the pistol grip and noticed the hole from beneath.

...glad I wasn't going crazy. haha.

Thanks for the help gents.

Didn't have as much time this weekend as I wanted to put her together, but I managed to finish the lower assembly as well as the stock/buffer etc.
