When in doubt, grab the 270!

Fantastic cartridge that gets a bad rap only because it's been around longer than dirt. The original 7-06 doing what a 7-06 should be doing, slinging light bullets in comparison to the .30-06 unlike many .280 loads. Gets just fast enough to shock, shoots a bit flatter than most just enough to be noticeable, and is all around sensible. And you're darn well sensibly using it, good show.

Mate i seen a Lion shot with a 150 partition not long ago, forget where i seen it but il try find the Safari in which the Hunter used a .270 for i think Eland some plains game and a bloody Lion!

Whelanlad,

long time no speak mate!

I shot mostly all plains game animals in Africa with a .270. On the smaller species it kills but it f.@ks the cape up...on bigger species up to Blue Wildebeest / Zebra it knock's them down with well placed shots and premium bullets. One animals like Eland, well that is a different story, but can be done...did it myself with a 110gr Impala mono solid. On Lion yes it can be done (don't need big cannons to hunt them), but the law and especially RSA requires a min. calibre of a .375 on all BIG 5 hunting.

I and my son (14 years old) still hunt with the .270...

Patrick!
It has been, the sister is heading over in August to malawi, im tossing up on moving to NZ or soend on the RSA trip.. im leaning toward the wilderness adventures awaiting just over the ditch to be honest ☺

Glad to hear the .270 is gettin good run with you an your son! Dont be shy to post up a couple pics now :)

Warm barrels mate
