I thought I got a deal last weekend and bought up 5 lbs of TiteGroup from Cabela's online and used the $99 Free Shipping Promotion.

Didn't see any shipping updates on the order, decided to call them up today.

The rep on the phone said we have your order on hold as we if you want the powder you'll have to pay $239.99 for freight charges.

Has anyone had experiences like this when dealing with Cabelas?

Freight seems outrageously high. Ended up cancelling the order.

Same, $99 free order, double the cost of my order in shipping. Cancelled. They can kiss my arse, no more dealing with Cabela's again. Mediocre service in the past.

Cabelas - gets zero of my business now. I drove to Barrie to buy an 44 mag marlin 1894 - which they had in stock. When I got there, they would not allow cycling the gun (without ammo of course) to check the smoothness of the action. Since they do not allow returns and marlins can be hit or miss as far as finishing goes I walked and took my hard earned dollars elsewhere.

Seems like they spell it out under the description for the "$99 free shipping"

$239 freight (doesn't include cost of powder) is outrageous.

I know there are guys knocking Cabelas. I have had better luck finding powder there than anywhere else. For those fortunate enough to live closeby to a store, the free shipping is a bonus.

old news, this thread pops up every 2-3 months. i don't recall a logical reason for the shipping charge but most move on.

Using common sense, and the old adage "If it's too good to be true, it probably is", goes along way when dealing with Cabelas.
That's what I use, and I've had nothing but positive experiences with them. At least in the shipping department.

That would be annoying. Maybe it depends on who is there, but it shouldn't. Around January I was in there and was checking out the Henry Big Boy in 44 magnum. They let me cycle it, ####/de-#### the hammer, etc. but had to do that in an office off to the side of the Gun Library. Seems a bit silly but maybe it's because the counter there is openly visible from farther away in a large store, and, God forbid, Torontonians might see someone work a lever and get scared.

First and only (so far) time I bought powder online got it from SFRC (one of the site sponsors) - I had been waiting for some to come in and ended up ordering 3x1lb Win 296. Shippping on that (UPS) was $15.91.
