Outrageous Shipping for Powder @ Cabela's

Ammo and powder are not included in the free shipping to stores.

Cabela's is far from my first choice of places to shop, however I did order 2000 rounds of 22LR about a month and a half ago and had it shipped to my door for free. It seems (the odd time I order something online) I have to call in to fix one thing or another with my order, that being said I do end up getting what I ordered.

I did have the same experience last year, $70 in powder, $250 in shipping. I did as others said, just cancelled the order and struck them as a site to order anything from.

I recently ordered a pistol from Cabela's and after three and a half weeks, two cases, two padlocks (one of each was sent by it's self) I finally got my gun. They cut me a discount, but since they are shipping from the city I live in, this is totally unacceptable. And I was looking forward to the new store this fall, but not now.

I know there are guys knocking Cabelas. I have had better luck finding powder there than anywhere else. For those fortunate enough to live closeby to a store, the free shipping is a bonus.

There is probably a reason why they have more powder, maybe they have less costumers buying it around the country because of their shipping charges...if you live close to a cabelas, good on you but if not...

Just ordered some Varget ($37.99/lb) & some CCI 450 primers ($4.59/100) from Wholesale Sports online. Shipping was $10.95 with Canpar. Ordered it late on Tuesday, it shipped early Thursday & is scheduled to be delivered Monday.

I also dont understand why last year and before I could get free shipping for ammo and now they call you for big shipping fees.. 88$ for shipping a couple bricks.. Had to cancel of course :(

Sorry to revive such an ancient thread, but in the interest of public service I can confirm nothing has changed. Was looking to order some powders I can't find locally and was thinking about ordering so I called Cabelas.ca customer service. Guy was nice and said they have to get a 3rd party quote - he thinks they're carrier is Day & Ross... but he was honest and said he's never seen a quote that was reasonable - usually $100+ for any powder. So, not a viable option. There is a store now in Ottawa which might work for free to store shipping if you're local, but its a bit too far for me to make a special trip so haven't looked into it.

powders, primers etc ship free from wholesale sports (when they have the free shipping promos) so that's where i order those goods from. Cabela's still has great deals on loaded ammunition which do ship free so I order a lot of target shells and handgun ammo there.

Some places charge more than others for products, others for shipping etc, not sure why so many here get so angry, pretty strong sense of entitlement here...

Cabelas - gets zero of my business now. I drove to Barrie to buy an 44 mag marlin 1894 - which they had in stock. When I got there, they would not allow cycling the gun (without ammo of course) to check the smoothness of the action. Since they do not allow returns and marlins can be hit or miss as far as finishing goes I walked and took my hard earned dollars elsewhere.
I wouldn't ask when they hand it to me I'd start cycling instantly it's a 1000$ gun u have the right to do that

If I recall correctly, they store them with cable locks so you have to ask them to remove it. In my case, they would but only in a room between the main counter and the "gun library".

I would have bought another crate of 7.62x39 PRC surplus over the weekend for blackfriday but even with the promotional free shipping they were adding in a freight charge. I am about 40mins away from the Barrie Cabela's but ordering from competitors even without the discount is equal or slightly cheaper. I have a good 6000 rounds of 7.62x39mm would have like 7500 but no need to rush out and charge up the card before Xmas for a deal I can still get after new years.
