Hello,

Apologies if this is not the appropriate forum for this question; I searched and did not find an answer, nor did anything seem more appropriate than this forum.

My question is this: Where can one obtain a 'blue' or red dummy gun such as is used for practicing various things with at the lowest price, without having to order from the USA (I'd like to keep my money in Canadian hands)? I own an M&P9 full-size and wish to practice drawing and grip, and my wife practices Krav Maga so I figure I'd kill two birds with one stone, and purchase something that fits my holster and she can work on her disarms with. I can find things on amazon.ca but if the prices are close enough to a CGN vendor, I'd rather support them.

I make holsters and when I looked into these for molding I was told that blue guns are not for sale to the public only for LEO and Military training in Canada. They are considered replicas and thus prohibited. I may be wrong but I sure tried to get them and could not. if you succeed please let me know where from.

M&P 40.. close

but I doubt they are allowed since its listed as...

Firearm simulator, also known as "BLUE GUNS", urethane replica firearm for Police and military training. Ring's Manufacturing Blue Guns are hand-crafted detailed reproductions. Blue Guns are molded to the exact dimensions and detail of the weapons they represent.

To be prohibited as a replica firearm, a device must closely resemble an existing make and model of firearm. If it is an antique firearm, as defined by the Criminal Code and corresponding regulations, it is not prohibited.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police Canadian Firearms Program (CFP) receives many enquiries from people wondering whether an imitation firearm would be considered a replica if it resembles a real firearm in many ways, but is made of clear or brightly coloured plastic, or has significant dimensional differences. Many of these devices need to be assessed on a case-by-case basis. As a general rule, however, devices significantly smaller or larger than the real version are not classified as replica firearms.

As usual, the law is no help. I don't think blue guns "closely resemble" a real firearm, but it doesn't matter what I think, it only matters what the person who arrests someone thinks. I swear to Jeebus, this country sometimes... time to call Ed Burlew for the real scoop, I guess.

I think its completely dumb, but lost of the firearms and related laws are

Also, does it not strike you as odd that a 'replica', made of blue plastic, and fully 100% completely incapable of ever harming someone could be prohibited... yet you can get a license to own a restricted firearm (as many of us do) that is entirely capable of harming someone were it to be misapplied? Whiskey. Tango. Foxtrot.

I mean, at the very least, if I can own a real pistol, at least I should be able to own a 'replica' having a restricted license... gah.

It almost sounds like a person who committed an offence with a blue gun (a prohibited weapon? we're still not clear on that) could receive greater legal sanctions then one who committed an offence with an an actual, functional, albeit restricted, one! Wow.

False. The blue and red Glocks are restricted. They have fully functional receivers.

SFRC had some in stock last week, he is a site sponsor.

They were not blue but bright orange, I bought one last year for training purposes
