Ive decided to go with some SPUHR rings for my Cadex

Now Im a real cheap skate and im thinking of getting just the rings to save a couple of bucks.

Is there a real big disadvantage of getting the ring over a complete base ? Or should I just suck it up and get the complete base ?

Help a newb out :p

Cheers

I think your Cadex rifle deserves the full monobloc base. Given the investment, I believe you should go the extra mile. I would not put a high end scope on rings without lapping them, to make sure they are perfectly aligned with the scope tube. With the full base, lapping is not required and it gives you maximum mechanical rigidity. In my opinion, the less parts you have between the rifle and the scope, the better it is. I'm a big fan of the Spuhr monobloc scope mounts myself. That's what I use on my 308 and 338. I never regretted them. But I have to admit, they are expensive. Another option could be the monobloc mounts from Near Manufacturing, which I believe is a sligthly cheaper solution.

Looking forward to your range report! :)

Thanks for the info... I guess I shouldn't cheap out...

another question, since my rail is already 20 MOA I should get a 0 MOA base ?

It depends on your scope (available elevation range) and how far your want to shoot. My 308 has a 20 MOA rail and I'm using a 0 MOA base, it good enough for what I'm doing. On my 338, I have a 25 MOA rail and added a 20 MOA base on top of it. It allows me to use all the elevation available on my S&B (26 mrad) scope for long range shooting.

Thanks for the help. will have to figure out the height tomorow. and to think 6 years ago I thought an SKS was expensive.... LMFAO.....

This hobby is emptying my bank account faster than smoking crack... lol...

Which NXS? If is the 5-25 or 3-15 then you might as well get the 20moa mount to go with your 20moa rail. This will still leave plenty of room for a 100yrd zero and give you more usable elevation travel if you need it down the road. And yes get the one piece mount. I've had most of the high end mounts and the Spuhr are at the top in my opinion.

There is only about $20 difference between Spuhr's separate rings and their one-piece mounts anyway.

I would go with the one piece for sure.

I use Spuhr rings on a couple of rifles, for me, the light weight is the big advantage, and that I can get the scope closer to the bore of the rifle. I'm using a Bushnell ERS in both situations.
