So I wanted to return my SKS to her former glory, I had removed the original one via dremel for a Wartak rail. Ordered a new replacement takedown latch from Marstar, and had trouble installing it.

Basically I ended up ruining the equivalent of 4 coffees...

Anyone had experience installing the NcStar takedown latches? I found one potato quality video on youtube, and 0 other references on install.

This is all after the fact, and I should have come on here earlier, but I was too busy getting frustrated and grunting like a man ape.

Thanks lads.

Hey man, i too have installed a Magwedge and cut my original pin out.....i just bought another sks to keep stock :) forget messing with the ncstar crap, learned a few times over on that shizzle too. I would imagine however to replace that pin, you gotta put it through the holes and hammer a wee little pin the through to secure it, there is like a little chamber inside the back of the action that catches the wee pin on the big latch.. goodluck, but i'd just have fun, go shopping and get another to keep stock :) cheers

Are you talking about the takedown pin/lever at the rear of the action? I wanted the action cover to be rigid because I installed a scope on one cover and a peep sight on the other.

The solution was a simple 1/4" bolt. The hole is already the right size. All it needs is a tap to thread it. I have seen it done with black bolts. That would look nicer.

Interested in this.

Tech Sights on a couple SKS's for a few years. Want to swap them out to Mojo rear sight. I'm over the Tech Sights.

Found the old latches yesterday. Gun smith who installed sights cut pins off so thinking could drill out latch and maybe use old drill bit for a pin.

Ganderite you could of at least used a Russian bolt instead of a Canadian Screw. :)

Sorry could not help myself .Our US customers flip when they see anything with Robertson hardware.

I bought the one for sale from Hical.... 12 bucks. was a very very tight fit. so i spent maybe 5 minutes rotating the pin in some sand paper, then wire brushed it to a nice finish. It fits just like the original now. It comes with an itti bitti pin ( one end cylinder, the other countersunk) I pushed the latch pin into the receiver, then pushed in the tiny pin, pinched both ends with a vise grip, dremeled the cylinder side of the pin that was still sticking out level with the latch pin. I left the countersunk side alone so the Latch pin does not fall out of the receiver of course.

doesnt look as professional as the original pin, BUT it works and looks good enough.

Thanks for the info lads... I reinstalled my Wartak because I'm off to a friends cottage this weekend and I needed the old girl up and running... Even though I had to remove my perfectly zeroed red dot off of my AR :(.

After much deliberation with my internal gun thoughts, I'll probably just keep her like she is... and instead just buy another SKS that will be kept in its original Russian glory.
