At a glance it said "Marlin" to me, but a quick peek at an 81 suggests I'm wrong. The rear tube hangar that's also where takedown screw goes is very Marlin looking. On my 81 there's a taper where it mates with reciever, ut yours appears uniform, and there's a weird (I'm guessing sling mount) thing on your front hanger that's unlike anything I recall seeing.

By process of elimination it still may be Marlin, but not for the 81.

---looking through the Marlin Models-- thanks

thought the swivel clip/attachment would have been the giveaway :)

How large is the cutout for loading? Any chance it's for .22wmr? That might explain lack of taper at the end.

Also spacing for dovetails to mount the magazine retainers would be a handy number for id'ing. (if you look close at the tube, you should see where the rings were mounted)
