Took my son-in-law shooting gophers this morning. He has lived most of his life in a city in Finland. He met my daughter while over here in university. He speaks perfect English and fairly decent Mandarin. He was in the Finnish military about 15 years ago, probably a mandatory militia/cadet thing. He remembers shooting an RK62 Sako. He said he shot well enough to earn a "free day off" in a contest.

Now, down to this morning. I started him off with my Rock Island 10/22 clone. You know, the one that is no good at all. :p I have an old Burson scope on it. First shot - WHACK - gopher gone! :dancingbanana: All I did was show him how I kneel on my right leg, sit on my foot, and rest my left elbow on my left leg. Breath in, half out, squeeezze - bang!

The guy is sniper material! He was whacking gophers left and right. Then I traded him my 455 American in .17. Same thing, only longer distances! I spot him one about 100 yards. A bit of a crossbreeze, so I tell him to aim a couple of inches off to the right. He gets down in the classic kjohn squat - WHACK! Jeez, I'm impressed! He made away from me with a pocketful of .17. He smoked about 20 gophers and I got maybe 30. He was tickled pink, to say the least.

My daughter and son-in-law live in Saskatoon, so it is not that far away. They both plan to get their RPALs, as they have an assured supply of guns from dear old Dad. I assured him that he has gone up at least two notches on the "father-in-law approval chart". He only has 6,998 to go! :d
