Currently looking for a muzzle brake to help with faster follow up shots.

I've heard these brakes are teeth chattering loud so I'm just looking for some opinions on the brake. I train/shoot next to people on a regular basis so having a muzzle brake that won't annoy fellow shooters too much is a necessity.

I am also looking at the Griffin Armament flash comp for 7.62 as well so any opinions on this brake would be appreciated!

Thanks
Ben

There's a sticky above with rundown of the popular brakes/comps out there. One option is to get a GA Blast Shield or the Ferfran CRD. Put the shield on when shooters are adjacent to you and take it off when you're alone.

I wasn't aware there was a brake that was quiet or had shields. Learn something every day.

I have a site sponsor brake and I can't recommend it. There is better out there. It's definitely not quiet.

I've shot the Lantec and it works well.

Doesn't a blast shield kind of defeats the purpose of having a brake in the first place?

The shield on the CRD is vented so while it may reduce the effectiveness of the brake it should still allow it to work a little. I just watched a video of the CRD on a 223/5.56 and it definitely reduced the concussion blast to the sides but it was hard to tell what it did to recoil since the round doesn't produce a lot of recoil to begin with. 223/5.56 recoil can mostly be compensated for by the shooter with proper form. It's too bad they didn't demo the 7.62 CRD in the video instead.

If anyone wants to buy me one I'll test it on my AR-10 and come back with a full range report comparing it to the Troy Claymore I have on there now :)
I don't think I could swallow the price of one of those but I definitely like the idea of having a removable concussion reducing device on a muzzle brake.

Does anyone know if the Lantac brake for the 7.62 AK is the same as their 7.62x51 brake other than the threads?

I am thinking the design would be different for each cartridge but maybe not.

I will be having my barrel threaded and need to know which way to go.

For your 450? You'll have to see what is available with a 45cal hole in the end.
The diff between the 7.62 and the AK versions should be limited to the thread pattern used. http://www.lantac-usa.com/catalogue/Muzzle-Devices.html looks identical other than thread.

No, for 7.62x39, 30AR and a bolt gun in 7.62x51.

If it is the same I can buy one and try it, but don't want to use a x51 brake on the x39 if it is not designed for that cartridge

Sometimes they use the same brake for the pics on a website

If you're going to install a blast shield on a brake like the Surefire or Lantac, why not save your money and install a linear brake instead? You'll end up with the same result or effectiveness.

AKs are threaded 14X1 L/H

Most 7.62x51 and 308Win rifles are threaded 5/8x24
yes, but is the design other than threads different?

it is not an AK so I can thread it either way but want a brake that is optimized for the caliber rather than trial and error testing with what works best

The design and dimensions of the 7.62x51 and the 7.62x39 are identical.

Because you can install the shield when others are shooting next to you and not be the A-hole and when you have more space you can take it off and enjoy the effects of a full functioning brake.
I run linear comps on many of my rifles and have no complaints but I do see the appeal of having both available to me with a quick twist of the lock ring.
And a linear comp does not function like a brake, it is a compensator which directs most of the blast downrange and offers a small amount of muzzle rise compensation but no reduction in recoil to the shooter.
