Anybody tried one of these? It's non-restricted and uses "relatively" cheap ammo, which I'm already buying in bulk. And you can use it at the range. And the price is pretty good too. We're just target shooting and looking for something other than a handgun.

[If this is the wrong forum, feel free to move it].

have just over a 1000 round shot in it and not much trouble with it , it not a very accurate gun but ist a good cheap plinker i would say from my experience but them al lthe naysayer will say it crap because they compare a 500? rifle to a 1000$ one

CX4 Storm is nice. Very customizable right out of the box with left handed options and factory rails.

Verily! But it's budget-dependent... This build is about $1600.

That's quite the rig! I have that same scope on my Tavor. You look like a guy who could answer a question about the CX4 for me.

Do you notice a big difference in accuracy with different bullet weights and types? What size groups can you get? I just have an Eotech on mine and have just shoot it offhand a few times.

I got mine to fill a small niche when I needed a gun for dispatching coyotes around the property in the evening that I could mount a light on that didn't have quite the noise or over penetration that a full size rifle would have but had a bit more range than the shotgun I normally use.

Well that was the excuse I made for myself to buy it. I have enough guns to fill a lot of niches.:d

Sorry to hijack the thread.

Apologies, Roddy, but "La Contessa" is much too recent an acquisition for me to have any useful input about its accuracy. Maybe after I have 1000 rounds through it... and the question will always be "how much is the gun and how much is me?". :p

I can tell you that one "advisor" at the store where I bought it doubted that it was possible to get even 2 MOA with commercial loads on 9mm. *shrug* I'll have to see for myself: it may be a pistol cartridge, but a 115gr bullet shot out of a 19 inch barrel at 1300+ FPS should have a ballistic curve close to that of a .22LR below 100m, so I don't see why similar accuracy wouldn't be possible (though perhaps not with bulk surplus ammo). I used the calculator at http://gundata.org/ballistic-calculator/ with:
- .22 Standard Velocity and Match Ammunition, Winchester Long Rifle Standard Velocity Solid, 40gr at 1150 ft/s
- 9mm Luger (9mm Parabellum) (9x19mm), American Eagle (Federal) Full Metal Jacket, 115gr at 1300 ft/s

And I know the "niche" feeling you're talking about: I wanted something semi-auto, to use at close ranges (<100m), with more authority than a toy .22, the magazine capacity of a pistol and cheaper to shoot than a .223 (not to mention a smaller danger zone behind the target). That's how I ended up with the Cx4 rather than say, a M1 carbine. The Chiappa and JR were cheaper, but for this kind of investment I'd rather pay premium for a recognized brand name (not to mention a certain elegance in styling).

There's a Cx4 thread on the Black & Green rifles I'll post shooting results on, if I get anything worth talking about. :)

4 MOA would be fine. Minute of pie plate at 100 yards standing is all it has to. I don't know how it compares to the Chiappa in terms of accuracy.

Beretta built it. You attached things to it.

Welcome home, Mr. Obvious. :p

A naked Cx4 costs $1100, but why shoot a naked carbine or rifle? What? Not even a little optics, muzzle break or bipod? The uncouth barbarian knaves! Unbelievable! Next thing you know they'll be shooting SKS over iron sights! The peasants!

Well, I can't really justify (except in fantasy) spending $1K or more on this. For target shooting at the range? Under $500 with a synthetic stock sounds much better to me at this point. If I needed an unrestriced black rifle I'd go for a Tavor or maybe an M14.

Anybody tried putting a scope on one of the Chiappa M1s?

I think he was pointing out the possibly incorrect terminology, where 'builds' on a black rifle forum is usually starting with a completely unfireable firearm(an empty lower), and every part being chosen from the springs right up to the barrel.
And some purist would probably require a 80% lower as a starting point.
Or a hunk of aluminum.
Accessorized vs build.

Oh boy, Lone-wolf... You mean I ran afoul of a damnable terminology nazi? I shall forevermore be shiverin' in me anal-retentive purple booties! :p

Seriously, his post was so brief (8 words to state 2 very obvious facts) that I'm still not sure about what he meant to convey. To me, any product that is the result of putting parts together is a "build". Applies to computers, software, vehicles, guns, furniture, art, buildings, etc... Otherwise, might as well say that a car was not "built" by Ford, since they didn't make the tires, oil filter or many other parts. That way lies complete insanity! ;)
