Challenger/Score VS Winchester/Remington/Kent

Challenger is good quality ammo, but there is a small chance you'll have primer piercing issues that will cause damage over the long run. You'll notice a dark stain on the primer (lower barrel only) when you remove shells from the gun, something to watch for. My Browning 725 had this problem, my SKB doesn't. Most Cynergys don't have the problem either.
My first choice for economy ammo is Remington Gun Club as well.
 
I prefer Winchester AA's, Remington STS and Federal Gold Medals, in no particular order. They are all very reliable premium ammo and very reloadable.
The only "promo shells I have tried were Remington Gun Clubs ... no problems.
Both Challenger & Kent/Gamebore target ammunition is very good, and after several thousand rounds of each has caused no damage to any shotgun I've owned.
I have also used Cheddite primers to reload literally thousands of rounds of target loads over the years and have never pierced a primer. I suspect those that have
that problem have improperly shaped firing pins, or pins that protrude too far beyond the breach face.
 
i like AA shells, and are usually first choice, but also like the kent brand. I liked federal paper when you could get it.
never had an issue with primers, and have shoot many thousands of trap loads over the years, factory and reloads.
 
Sorry but I don't like Winchester quality anymore -- recently bought a flat of 28ga #9's for skeet. The first box I opened had amateurish crimps and out of the 25, 9 had split brass. I shoot mainly Challenger 1oz loads and like Rem Gun Club and STS.
I've Seen Winchester with sizing so bad that they wouldn't fit in a O/U.

Super Target or AA?
 
Super Target and Universal Loads are getting to be of dubious quality. Some shotguns have issues with others do not. The AA has always been a quality shell, the price reflects that.
 
I went through a flat of Challenger 12 GA this past weekend in an O/U with no issues whatsoever. They functioned and broke as many clays as I usually would.
I tried a flat of Winchester Super Target 20GA (they were cheaper than AA's) in an 1100 and had lots of feeding issues. The same gun with "AA's" (I tried 2 boxes when the Super Targets were finished) functions flawlessly !

I'm not sure what to think other than maybe we get what we pay for !
 
I have seen a few people have issues with Estate loads dropping behind the ejector plates in their over under guns. If you don't notice and try to close the gun it can be a pia to get the shell out. It's possible the rim diameter may be slightly smaller in some cases.
 
I usually shoot the cheaper loads Top Guns , Gun Clubs , Estates , and Challanger . Won,t buy the cheap Winchesters . On the week end I shot 75 Remington nitro 27 shells . Their proformance was out standing compared to the cheaper promo loads as they seemed to really crush targets ( sporting clays ) The quality of the top gun shells seems to have fallen off lately had numerious fail to fires in the last flat of those that I used .
