Gear Head Works newest Tavor Mod.

GHW custom milled the BCG for it to work.
Well, that's just the stupidest thing ever. I don't get the Americans' desire to "AR-ify" the Tavor by changing out parts that have been designed by the Israelis for specific functions and replace them with worse parts.

First there are the replacement fore-ends, which prevent the rifle from being held in the way it was designed (the six points of contact stance that TVPP had shown to him from the IWI guys at SHOT), while making the rifle heavier.

Then you've got the Manticore buttpad that, while apparently more comfortable and also shortens the LOP, allows the rifle to sit too low on your shoulder, requiring even higher optic risers, exacerbating the already high optic height over bore. And the mostly vertical buttpad was (from what I've read) designed to specifically not "pocket in" if you have to shoot it off your chest or some other non-optimal spot.

And finally there's this answer to a question no one asked (and even that's probably too charitable for something that useless). I know that customizing an AR with aftermarket parts is part of the fun of owning one, but to bolt junk like this on a Tavor without understanding why seems silly.

No it doesn't, As soon as I installed the curved buttpad I removed my GHW riser rail and got a better cheek weld because the riffle sit in the same spot every time.

This. It is easier to get a much more consistant cheekweld now, so I have ditched the GHW Razorbacks.

My Tavor now the closest it has been to stock in over a year. Aside from optics, I am really only sporting the Manticore buttpads for any "ergo" changing "upgrades".

I totally get why the IWI reps said to TVPP "why?" About all the aftermarket "upgrades". I initially thought they were being snobish, now I understand what they were thinking.

That is a stupid and likely costly modification that is entirely unneccisary at best, and harms the ergonomics and ruins cheek weld as well as bumping your face during recoil at worst.

Dumb dumb dumb.

The charging handle is also the forward assist. Why do they make a second one?

Because the US and CDN militaries wrote it in the manual to make everyone hit the FA everytime after a reload. This is totally a thoughtless translation of M16FOW MoA to TAVOR.

Its a Non Reciprocating charging handle/rod. Am I missing something on how it is soppossed to work as a forward assist?

No, you're not missing anything, the charging handle on the Tavor does not work as a forward assist, it can only apply rearwards pressure on the bolt, not forwards pressure.

Perhaps GT has had a pint too many at this early hour, much like myself, and mixed up a few little details? Heheh... no harm no foul says I!

Im thinking that must be the case. I know Tavors intimately inside and out, having done a couple left/right handed conversions myself, so I was really confused!

Wow! What a freakin' stupid "solution" to a non-existent problem. Quick, somebody post the double face palm from ST:TNG! A single face palm just won't cut it!

Don't tell me this, I just put mine on! Lol

But this I get, I looked into all of the extras and have found while some make it look kinda cool, last I checked looking kinda cool doesn't make anything shoot better and actually usually has the opposite effect. Trying to keep the mods minimum and 100% functional only. But that is trial and error..........with some help from this forum of course.

It still feels a little low to me still, so you might be fine, but since my head lands in the same spot now I am doing my best to cope with it in order to keep the lowest height over bore possible.

How tall are you? Fat or skinny face? Lol. I always found it was my cheek bone digging into the rifle and the buttpad was sitting really high on my shoulder to get lined up at stock height. With the stock pad I find the riser a more natural height.

Even though it is clearly retarded, we are getting off topic. Maybe we should go back to saying how stupid this new mod is. Lol

6'4" with what I feel to be fairly large cheek bone structure.

I agree 100% on needing the razorback with the OEM buttpad for using my Elcan.
