If someone wants to start a "new" .22lr shortage thread feel free.....

Didn't happen if no photo

I picked up 10k for him at Eagle in Richmond.
Even I was like WTF? Serious man? 2 cases?

Agreed...only Walmart seems to be holding the line on decent 22 lr ammo prices ; 25.47 for Win. 555 ; and around 16 for Win. 333....

Problem is that Walmart never has stock. I've been there more in the last month than I have in the last year.
I hate Walmart usually but I'll take a peek if they have $25 555s (which they never do)

Eventually he got around to his point that, that kind of wasteful shooting is why there is a shortage of ammo, and when it can be found it's way over-priced. Another time I would have, and may yet engage his conversation, but that was not the right arena so I slipped away shortly after.

Ummm, so if shooting is a waste of ammo what does he use his for? Guy sounds like a bit of a knob.

Everything is up. Chicken is six bucks a pound, bread is over three buck a loaf. There is no reason .22 LR can't reflect the market forces. It's still fun and still the cheapest off the shelf, I'm glad we can still shoot. Next year I'm planting vegetables and raising chickens.

You can buy a roasted chicken for less than 10 bucks out here sometimes as low as 5-8 bucks for a whole chicken cleaned cooked and ready to go. I can't believe how cheap it is and there is no way you can raise a chicken and clean it for $10 bucks much less cook one. Good luck with raising your own but I suggest unless you are just looking for a hobby or are insistent on knowing where your meat comes from you are barking up the wrong tree. By all means plant a garden but chickens.....hell no!

Will the eggs offset the cost of raising it? Seems like a good investment since a lot of their food could just be bugs you already have on the ground.

His beef was the amount we wasted "just playing" in the back yard. He made reference to the 400-500 rounds we wasted, I didn't tell him it was actually over 1,000 we had shot. His price complaints were probably about single box price, not brick or case prices.

Bugs are only there for 3-4 months plus you have to protect a stupid flightless bird from (deep breath) dogs, cats, eagles, hawks, coyotes, fox, minks, weasels, lice, mites, parasites, possums, snakes, rats, bobcats, bears, owls, skunks, crows and other chickens. SO even eggs are not so hot. Can get them off a local farmer for 2 bucks a dozen or about 0.16 cents per egg. SOLD!

Also, don't even think about making a loud noise near the coop, or they'll all huddle in a ball and suffocate and overheat.

So you have to protect them from sounds too.

Sounds like a bitter dude. I wouldn't invite him back to any party I was having. lol To some people, only "serious" shooting matters...which I don't get. I mostly AM a fairly "serious" shooter by that definition...but sometimes, it's fun to bowl-over soup cans...watch frozen apples explode...shoot steel targets hundreds of times just to hear them go "PING" :) I'm guessing that guy at the party wouldn't approve. lol

I'm doing OK for ammo supply, and it's the stuff I like to shoot most. I don't like the climate we're in...but part of every week involves a couple of phone calls, a couple of emails...see who has what, and for how much. (local, I hate having ammo shipped) Keep at it, you'll find good stuff.

As for starting a new thread~any thread title that is lacking the words; "PROVE IT" is fine with me. :)

Exactly! What happened to just having fun with your toys? Even more important when you're trying to introduce friends to it. Some people are just buzzkills, nothing can be done about it.

yeah, Devolute, it's everywhere.

ordered 3K rounds of CCI tactical from Ammo Canada...Kate was great there.
ordered 10K of CCI Velocitor from Eagle Hunting...Rebeccah was great there.
just ordered 4K rounds of American Eagle HV...waiting on confirmation they have the stock to ship.

so I guess Lszwajda got me, only 17K rounds. LOL! :D

So... that's where it's all going! CCI Federal Champion .22LR is appearing in CTC stores in Eastern Ontario for the first time anywhere in about 3 years- I mean aside from the old bricks in stores that were quietly marked up from $21 a brick to $45 and have been gathering dust ever since. The CTC stuff is $32/550 rounds.

I don`t get it when people say there is no ammo shortage. Sure you can get 22 ammo if you look around and use online sources. I used to walk in to LGS, Canadian tire, walmart any day and buy as much as I want.

Agree, I remember seeing my CT have 13+ buckets of bullets, 10+ M22 boxes and 40+ bricks of 22lr.
Now its down to aguila at 14-17.5 cents a shot and Win wood boxes, Im shocked sold at $60 + tax.

Yeah I'll consider the shortage over when I can walk into Can Tire or Walmart and have my choice of 5-6 different types of bricks like I could do 2 yrs ago. Just because random places across the country have it doesn't mean it's "commonly available". Paying shipping for over priced bricks of ammo from AB to Cape Breton is stupid. Might as well just buy SK Standard locally. Works out cheaper.

Did they cut a deal on those cases of velocitors?
