If you could only own ONE bolt action rifle ? ... not a troll thread

I'm very curious what people would choose.

Only criteria are it must be bolt action and not .22 lr.

Don't care about end of the world SHTF or all that stuff.

Lets just say for whatever reason you can only own one bolt for the rest of your life, what would it be and what caliber ?

If you care to list why please do.

For me hands down it would be in .308, bolt action obviously and 18.5"-20" barrel.
h ttp://www.gaprecision.net/ga-precision-2014-custom-rifles/ga-precision-xtreme-hunter.html

Something like the GA Precision Xtreme Hunter with a shorter barrel.

Not interested in silly posts please. Would really like to know what what you experienced guys would choose.

Im becoming pretty fond of my Mosin 91/30

But would probably take a savage .308 stainless with a short barrel if it came down to one only. Or a tikka T3 if I can get over the plastic...

My Swedish Mauser model 38 in 6.5 x 55 swede.

The cartridge, accuracy, recoil, quality, and mauser action. The kicker, in Ontario you can hunt small game with one.

I have a 3/4 finished custom 7x57 on a Mauser 98 action, and if I had to choose one rifle, that would be it. Keep in mind that I have no real interest in hunting bison, and there are likely no grizzly hunts in my future either. For the hunting I have left, the 7x57 will do nicely. It weighs about as much loaded (scope removed) as a loaded .30/30 M94, but has a lot more punch with the traditional 175 gr bullet. If I put the scope back on and switch to 140 gr. bullets, I have a rifle that will reach out to 300 yards and likely well beyond.

I also have a 9.3x62 that I'm quite fond of, but it's a heavy little bugger, and will probably feel a lot heavier 10 yrs from now. I can also envision scenarios where something a little more flat shooting would be advantageous.

A .30/06 would be the logical choice, but the 7x57 is the sentimental favourite.

Would the 1 gun situation because of money or legalities? That would make a big difference in the choice. No use gearing up for hunts that aren't going to happen. No use picking a nice custom that's out of reach price-wise.

Impossible, simply cannot do it.
I'll go down to one rifle about the time they are pouring me into the urn.
If you saw what I have for long guns you'd understand...

This is not meant to be a silly post either.

I only have one bolt action, lefty CZ527 American in 223. It is my rifle for shooting paper and cans at longer ranges and the only scoped rifle currently in the safe. I like levers for hunting and 22 rimfire for gophers. However I got MOA envy from all you guys!!! 223 reloads cheaper than many and even these days ammo is available. It is a slower twist barrel so no heavy 22 bullets but 50-55 grains seems real available and shoots fine.

Probably a stainless/synthetic model 70 in 35 Whelen or 9.3x62. Why? Because i'd have no qualms using one for anything up to Bison and i don't take shots over 300 yards. Preferably under 100 yards. It'd also be good for hunting in just about any weather.

That's my pick this week anyway. Ask me again next week and i'm sure the answer will be different.

I think the ruger scout in .308. Maybe not that particular rifle, but a quality version of that design. I have heard a few crappy things about them (the new one's anyways) but I love the idea of that little gun.

for me to hunt with only one rifle it would have to be a 270 or 264 win mag ..most likely a rugger 77 ,or a model win 70 crf ,,,I would need to be able to shoot in southern ont as well as cover any moose or elk trips ,Dutch

It would never happen to have only one but if i have to choose one, i dont se any other that come close to my Scout Steyr 308 mounted with a S&B 1X8X25 FD7...
Lazer accurate, extremely light, incredible trigger and the smoothest bolt ever... JP.

One gun? Impossible for myself. Guess if I had to and price was no object it would be along the lines of the following:

Ralf Martini .375 H&H

The do absolutely everything cartridge in an amazing platform. I could happily hunt anything on earth with that rifle. Would need something else for the mountains though. If absolutely need be I could be happy with a quality lightweight stainless/syn in 300 WM and the above rifle.

Easy, Savage Model 10 or Tikka Tactical in .308. 20" medium-heavy contour fluted and threaded barrel with AI magazine BM.

Today it's a Kimber Sonora in 25/06, I seem to be spending quite a bit of time with this one lately. Being in Southern ON I too am limited by caliber. It's likely too heavy for the "only rifle in your safe" game, but for today...

It would be my 7.08 Rem - Weatherby Vanguard II Sporter (wood stock).

The wood is pretty.

Fits me like a glove.

Not too big for deer nor too small for moose.

Can even get varmint bullets for Coyote and it doesn't kick the snot out of my shoulder when loaded heavy.
