For those with CZ 75 Shadows with guide rod upgrade......

I replaced the plastic guide rod with the steel one from Dlask. I noticed that the guide rod is off center, when looking at it straight on. It seems to function alright - can't go shoot it because I'm waiting for my registration papers, which apparently will take a month or more to get here.

So is this normal, or do I have something weird going on here? Sorry for the blurry picture, didn't want to focus for me.

I am OCD about stuff like this, so I had to ask.

Why replace the polymer guide rod in the first place? CZ has been using them for years. I have never had an issue with any of my CZ's. My advice...put the polymer guide rod back in. If CZ thought a stainless or steel rod was better or necessary they would ship the guns with one.

Probably the only common sense I have ever read on here.
 
I believe that is normal. I have a steel guide rod which I ordered from czcustom which has a pointed rounded off tip. They probably did this to make sure it clears without issue. It sits closer towards the top of the hole just like yours is. It the end of your guide rod flat? It looks like it to me.
 
Spring tension makes it looks like off-center since the rod diameter is smaller than the hole diameter. I do not see any advantage of using a steel guide rod. In fact, my SP01 Shadowline came with a steel guide rod. I replaced it with a polymer guide rod which works fine. Plus, one less metal part to slam against the barrel lug and slide.

I have the Canadian Edition model that has the steel rod right from the CZ Custom shop and it is off center also.Do you have the plastic buffer installed?Mine isn't as off center as yours but it's off.Shoots great!

No it is tapered like you describe. It will still rub every time the slide moves though, which kinda bugs me. I think I will switch it back to the polymer one.

I have the plastic buffer, but took it out to see if it made a difference. Doesn't seem to.
 
The slightly off center appearance of the guide rod is due to the recoil spring as mentioned. It's not an issue. Also, if you have the proper stainless guide rod and shock buff, use it - it will extend the life of your slide stop (which is a consumable part on CZ's) significantly.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah that is essentially why I bought the upgrades. May as well make it last as long as I can.
