Fun with the M1A/M14/M305 platform

the worst thing to happen to me and the "fun" of my M14 addiction is the internet LOL
if I could do it all over again.......

as for owning several, I've certainly owned my not so healthy fair share, enough to consider the relationship with the platform a compulsive disorder LOL
it's a fun rifle, regardless of branding, I'm thinning my herd down to one, the shorty I built with a norinco receiver , usgi parts and a Krieger barrel as it's the one I enjoy taking out the most.

I'm right there with you. There's something magical about the platform for me, it's satisfying on so many levels.

I've tried ARs (high end and low end, custom and stock) but just find them boring. For me they're missing some key intrinsic soulful attribute that M14-pattern rifles seem to have in spades.

Beautiful rifles by the way

If AR's are boring your using them wrong, lol. CQB, run & gun, IDPA, 3 gun, with 15 round mags, on the clock is how to use an AR. I love the M14 and it defiantly has its place but it just can't keep up with the speed and ergonomics of the AR platform.

That's probably it ;)

and the down side is you can`t shoot them anywhere but a Government certified and monitored range. Gun control at it`s finest.

I don't mind shooting at a range. There are too many f'n hillbillies around Calgary shooting in the bush where there are hikers, bikers and off roaders. Belonging to a club and shooting where people know what they are doing is a good thing. Go to the public range West of Calgary some time and you'll know what I mean.

Here's my Super Match , great rifle I love shooting it . I can't tell the difference between it and a NM but for the price I jump on it. You don't have much options for syn stocks so forget about the black feather as it won't accept a heavy barrel. I went with a JAE with no regrets.

That's a great looking kit PB.

I did notice in the Blackfeather main thread that the heavy barrelled M1As won't fit in his current chassis.

As crazy as it may sound, I would sacrifice the heavy barrel for a medium and be able to have a chassis with an actual pistol grip like the AXAI build I have put together for my Surgeon build. Also, having the ability to change butt stock to my preferred model is a plus for exact, personal fit.

There was a NM Super Match for sale in the EE and the timing of it just wasn't right for me, but at the price he was asking it was a pretty good deal.

That's where I'm at right now, putting a medium heavy NM "Crazy Horse" barreled action in a Blackfeather "RS".

A plain SA NM M1A with a wooden stock is a dream come true, for me it's hard to think it could get better since a NM is very close to perfection on it's own... JP.

Nicely done H20 MAN!

Have you considered the Scout Hand Guard ? if you have a need for it of course!
Thanks!

I am using the CASM Gen II "EX" on this build.
The LSP & SHG will not fit a medium heavy barrel.

The SHG works like a charm on my standard weight 16.25" though :)

This is what I'm talking about. They're so much fun to play around with and tinker. I've got three versions of the same basic rifle, and I enjoy shooting each one differently.

I like to think of them as muscle cars compared to sporty compact imports, which I consider the AR platform to be

Perhaps in 5.56, but get into the 7.62 or .50beo's - you'll have plenty of displacement to play with ;)

You are squared away sir and in good mental health.

I don't understand why, but I really, REALLY enjoy shooting, handling, and tinkering with my M305 (I have 3), moreso than any other rifle or handgun that I have.
Looking into my ammo stores, I just realized that I've gone through over 800 rounds of Norinco bulk in 2 years. I've never shot a rifle (larger than a .22) that much before.

I can't quite put my finger on an explanation for it. I just find it really fun and cool.

Any thoughts?

I can relate LOL
I've tried over and over to like the AR15 and AR10 platforms..... Ya, they might be easier to tune to shoot itty bitty groups vs the M14 platform but it's not the same.
The M14 to me is best explained as a true rifle... Ar's will always just be guns LOL
I also like the muscle car correlation, very much so ;)

They come from the same period of time as the original muscle cars. In a way both are unrefined but effective and classic. And before anyone says the 64 GTO was the first please don't forget the 413, 409, 421, 392, 406, 383 among others.
