wife says I need a new .45 and she buys me a P220

Beside a 1911's, I've only owned one other .45ACP. It was a S&W 4505 that ended up being a safe queen. I found the ergonomics pretty bad and the muzzle flip quite pronounced.

I once tried a Glock 21 and was not impressed. I like Glocks but in 9mm.

The last .45ACP I tried was a friend's Sig P220 SAS. WOW! Is how I felt after a few rounds. That gun was a joy to shoot and was producing a one hole group at 10 yards.

So, If not another 1911, with my limited experience with other .45's, I suggest you give a P220 a try.

Alright so the wife tells me last night that I need to get another .45 but maybe one other then a 1911 design. When I think 45 it's in a 1911. What are some of my better options? I'm more or less looking for people's personal reviews on a .45 in something other then a 1911. Thanks in advance
First of all buy your wife something special cause she sounds special. My wife just told me to buy her 45 pairs of shoes! Just kidding. Honey I was just kidding. No I was just kidding. Alright as far as a non 1911 style, All of the above can't be argued with although I do lean towards the Sig 220. It's 100% reliable and the quickest field strip aside from a Glock. BTW my wife is really good about my gun purchases though I noticed that every time I get a new "gift" she gets three.

Don makes a guide rod for the CZ 97B which was a nice upgrade from the plastic one. Only thing I would change is a nice adjustable rear sight.

Very interested in the p227, how do you like it?

Took it out the range today for a spin. First shot first one out the pipe on single action was dead centre at 10 yards... the next 49 were a little less impressive but feels very nice and, with a little practice, I'm confident I'll tighten the groups up. I have a 320 9mm. The grip feels a little different but not in a size sense - in that the "double stack" 45 does not "feel" much wider. All in, very happy with it so far.

For me the ultimate baddazz pistol is the 1911 45ACP, but in my herd if i have to pick one of my 45 that's a real badazz my FNX Tac 45ACP will neatly fit the bill... JP.

HI all; 1911 look at smith Wesson E series 5 inch steel frame. Adjustable sights. 1000 plus dollars get most bells etc. good solid long term gun. The Ruger 45 with 4 5/8 two cylinder is fun but will be harsh too shoot and has limited in the match's it can be shot.

I shot G21 Gen 3 and bought G41 Gen4. Both were excellent .45 with 10 round capacity. Very accurate and reliable. Definitely much easier to clean than my SR1911.
The price is very afforable too.

If your going polymer my vote would be for the HK45. It shoots really nice, and the grip is the most comfortable grip on any pistol.

In order of satisfation after the 1911's and the FNX 45 Tac...
I would choose my HK45C because of the Lem trigger system, after that the Sig P220 45, it got a heavy but crisp trigger... JP.

I own them and think they are great... Any of those are stellar in performance and reliability... The FNX45 TAC is #1... JP.
HK45CT...
Sig P220...
FNX45 TAC...
Glock 21...

Only took 8 pages, and a second post by OP, to get a response instead of a high jacked thread, I thought he only asked for info on Sig guns, however, the fanboys took over. I have a couple of Sigs, comfortable, reliable, accurate......certainly more than I.... Well made, fit and finish, easy takedown for cleaning. You should be happy with both the Sig and the Wife.
