Hi guys and gals.
Is there any difference between a model 60 and a Ranger? I have had a lot of Cooeys over the years but as I was rummaging around in Wanstalls in Maple Ridge today, I came across a nice Ranger. It dawned on me that I have no idea why the different names. Anybody out there know the history?
Thanks

Yes, originally guns Cooey made for Eatons were branded Eatonia. Sometime before WWll the name switched to Ranger. Guns made for Sears by Cooey were branded Sure Shot. There are several other store brand name guns as well for the different stores/chains that Cooey provided guns for.

Yeah because I went to buy a Cooey 75 and I got a ranger. I was like huh. Then I bought another Ranger and it was different then the other ranger I had. Engraving was in a different location, This had peep sights and unless someone milled and drilled and tapped for the 82 I think it was factory.

You probably had a model 78 target. It was basically the model 75 except for the sights. They were only made for a couple of years. Besides the model 82 full wood trainer that took a peep sight, there was also a model 82 non full wood that was basically a model 78. The other Cooey rifle that took the peep sight was the model 62 repeater that came with 2 apertures and front hooded target sight. They are quite rare. The 78 with the peep and front target sight is also not common anymore.

Yeah this got a peep rear more like a L bracket and comes with 2 eye cup pieces. Then has a hooded front with interchangeable front post. This is single shot and has a bigger and longer bolt knob. Sounds like this might be a 78. No other markings other then RANGER 22 CAL
