Help identify this no4 mk 1 please

Made by Savage in the U.S. for the lend lease program. After the war they were sent back to Britain and went through the FTR (factory through repair) They were never really lent of course, but a way to supply Britain before the U.S. entered the war. Someone stick a flashhider on it? They didn't come like that.

yup looks like an SVT 40 brake

serial number is the rollover 0C with 5 digits format that they changed to when they hit the million mark.

I'll have to file that factoid with the other UFI I carry around about serial numbers - usefull because I was thinking the last character's misalignment looked wrong.
A heavily bubba'd Savage No. 4 Mk I* at that. The 'England' stamp is a U.S. import requirement thing.
The muzzle brake(NOT BREAK) means it'd need a new or another barrel. The forestock means it'd need at least that and all the metal bits. That'd be expensive and you'd need a smithy who has a complete set of headspace gauges. You need to check the headspace before shooting anyway.

Seeing as it's already bubba'd up, if it was mine is shoot it and see how well it shoots. If it's accurate I'd mount a scope on it and call it my new hunting rifle.
