Hi there, first time poster.

Recently purchased a Norinco M305 and have been tuning it up. However having a hard time sourcing a company who is in Canada or who can ship to Canada for a reasonable price with the gas shims in stock.

Any ideas?

Thanks!!

Yup. I got them. You sure you really want to part with $5.00 for five shims?

Have you tried flipping your gas cylinder lock around to achieve a tighter fit? It's the solution of choice for avoiding the use of shims.

Cheers, Barney

$5 for shims seems like quite a deal. I'll PM you for details.

I haven't tried flipping the cylinder lock yet, but will get shims either way to cover the bases. My flash hider is one of the spot welded ones, I have ordered a USGI replacement from Armtac and would like that to arrive before I grind the welds down and remove the old flash hider.

You don't need to grind it.....

Of the 10 or so rifles that I've "tapped" the FH off of, only one required a BFMJH..... (Big F'n Mutha Jeezus Hammer)

Remove set screw, use castle nut pliers to loosen castle nut (or a judicious tap with a small punch) "loosen" castle nut to pre-load the front of the castle nut opening, tap on bayo lug with a small hammer (tape it with masking tape if you don't want to marr the finish). If that don't do it, use a piece of bar stock rested against bayo lug and a larger hammer.... Increase size of hammer until desired result is obtained!

Should pop right off! If not..... Then cutting may be an option, but I have seldom seen a properly "whacked" flash hider not loosen....

Cheers!

Trust this advice it's sound

I tried to knock it off before with little success, but I have to thank you for getting me to try again. This time instead of using my piddily hammer I got a 2 1/2lb mallet and used a length of cast iron pipe against the bayonet lug. After about 10 hits the welds broke and the flash hider came off. Broke the collar of the flash hider but I'm replacing that anyways. A little dremeling to clean up the weld spots on the barrel and it looks perfect.

Unfortunately putting the gas lock on the other way had little effect on timing, will have to use the shims when I get them.

Thanks again!
