Shooting today at the gravel pit with a buddy and his lady friend, a newbie to shooting. We shot SKS, skeet, centrefire and rimfire. She could shoot, a natural. Hitting clay birds with the shotgun, fantastic groups with 22-250, and check out the 5 shot group with a savage bolt action 22 at 100 yards. She outshot the boys today for sure.

They also say women have no natural flinch which makes them better shooters once trigger control is mastered.

I have seen that theory proven wrong first hand, as I have seen some women with terrible flinches. I have also seen some female shooters that did quite well on their first attempt at target shooting, but I have yet to see a female that naturally excelled at skeet . I don't doubt that they exist, but I have never seen one, although I have introduced many females to skeet.

There's no reason females can't shoot every bit as well as males. Shooting a rifle has no male/female genetic disposition. Just as cooking, doing laundry, sewing, or picking colours when decorating are not predisposed to any gender.

I have to admit, however, that for some reason it seems especially frustrating and a bit galling to be out done by a girl when it comes to the "manly" pursuit of riflemanship. ;)

I saw it even better when I was taking a small arms coaching course. The Female soldiers were less bragging, had less ego to out shoot others.

Us guys were not upset, we were pleasantly surprised, and happy she had such a good time. I hope and expect she will communicate her experience to her non shooting urban friends.

Anyone who has instructed a mixed bag of shooters knows that. You get the - "I'll always done it this way." from men. Answer - "Yes, and you've always been wrong." Men will not pay attention to instruction until a woman kicks their asses. Then you have their attention. Women simply do what they are told and then you just reinforce success.

Best thing to do after that is just get the hell out of her way! My wife has learned to say - "When I want your opinion or comments, I'll ask for it, DEAR."

She has a Remington hat that reads - "Shoot like a girl - if you can!" She can back it up.

I agree, except that new studies indicate that women are more sensitive to colour perception then men.... Just saying. :)

Having instructed many new shooters, I have found both men and women that would take instruction well, and both men and women that simply would not take instruction well. Women can be just as stubborn as men, and they can be just as open minded as well.

My old lady is a natural shooter too. If she had the trigger time and training I have' she would outshoot me big time :p I got her into shooting, now she owns a Glock17 and a Savage 223 Heavy Barrel to come and shoot with me. Next step : an AR :p

I find girls in general make better shooter because they don't have so much bad habuts to break and egos. For long range shooting, someone told me that they have a lower heartbeat that would help.

Anyway, nice shot from your friend there,
