just got back from CTA. I saw a sweety 20 ga pump, fairly short barrel, I think it was a Mossberg. It would be very handy in my forest trailmobile, but how well would it do getting grouse, being so short? I have an IGA Coach gun 12 ga with short barrels, it does not do real well getting grouse with #6 or 7 1/2. My Dad's old single shot Stevens 410 will out perform it every time!

Depends more on what the choke is on the barrel than the actual length. Most short barrels tend to be cylinder, but if you could find something short with removable chokes or a mod/improved/etc choke then they work great for grouse.

The Remington 870 Youth model has a 21 inch barrel with removable chokes. Could it have been that? They come either synthetic or wood stocked.

not sure. It did have a black stock on it. It was positioned with the info tag not showing. Nobody around and I was running out of time. My son thought it may have been a Mossberg.
