Hello,

Well, I finally got around to downloading all the trailcam pics, haven't been out back of the cottage since turkey hunting season ended. We're up in WMU76 near the Elmvale/Midland/Wye Marsh.

So, I saw this guy below, and we didn't see him or anything like it last year. Seems to be new this year. I am 100% certain it's not a wolf, the body shape is wrong, the head profile is wrong, yadda yadda yadda. But I'd like to know exactly what it is. I suspect a coyote or coyote mix. Anyone?

Sure kinda looks like this IMO, what do other folks think? A coywolf/eastern coyote?

They're the same thing - all eastern coyotes are, by definition, hybrids of coyotes and wolves. They lie somewhere along a DNA continuum. Coydogs have been established not to exist and be urban legend, basically.

There aren't any wolves in 76C, they require huge tracts of forest. There's just not the habitat to support them.

If you would mistake the 100 lb timber wolf pictured above for a coyote, look at the proportions. VERY different. Tail and ear size in comparison to body, depth of chest, etc. Colour is similar but irrelevant. It becomes obvious with some practise.
