Mosin Nagant 91/30 owners... ever wish you bought an M44? Vice Versa?

-I'm a big fan of shorties (guns and women)
-Ability to maneuver in the bush is important to me (guns and women) (again)
-I don't particularly want 2 moist nuggets
-I will probably not be doing any permanent modifications
-Portability is important to me
-Not particularly worried about resale value or collectability. This gun will get used, but taken care of.

So, what do you say. M44 owners, was it worth it? 91/30 owners, wish you had bought an M44?

I got the 91/30 first, then the M44. Both (along with my SVT) get shot frequently.

I grabbed the M44 (from a CGN'er) because I was looking for a short, handy rifle with a big punch for camping. There's bears in them thar hills!!!!!

Yes, it is worth it, although the recoil seems to be heavier with the M44 - probably due to its lighter weight and shorter barrel. I have one of those WalMart cheapo Remington recoil pads on it, it helps with the felt recoil and adds a little length to the stock (which I prefer).
 
I bought an m44 after my 91/30 then sold my 91/30 to make room in my safe. When I get another safe I'm gonna spend money on either a hex Russian or Finnish 91/30... Then pick up an m38. As far as shooting goes the m38 is lighter. I just got an m44 for the cool factor and collectibility. All my guns get shot from time to time tho and the m44 is probably my favourite to shoot. Can't beat that fireball.
 
An M38 would be my first choice but I can't seem to find one, and I don't mind rucking the extra weight of the bayonet just in case German paratroopers Blitzkrieg me while I'm plinking.

I told myself no more guns this summer... Oh well. M44 it is (unless somebody happens to have a super secret crate of M38's lying around). I'll put off an optics purchase till next year and get better with irons in true commie fashion.

I like them all and have a 38 ,3 91/30 hexes one ex PEM 42 Tula sniper and a recent 44 Ihssy PU sniper.
 
After I bought my 91/30, I wished I had got an m44.

Once I had my m44, I wished I had an m38

Once I had all three, I wished I never got started with Mosins, because even cheap surplus ammo starts to hurt the wallet when you've got three of the things to rotated through on a regular basis, because you don't want to give 1 too much attention and make the other two jealous and cranky.

Now I can't decide whether to sell them, or...

Keep angling for a PU sniper that was refurbed in Poland after the war, instead of getting all those Molot etchings all over it.

Excuse me while I go pester one of the sponsor dealers to find out what the import status of that PU is...
 
I have several M38s and M44s and I like shooting the M38 the most, but I will say they are not near as accurate as a 91/30 or SVT40
 
M44 is fun, and in my experience is the same weight as a few of my 91/30s. The bayo is mainly just a cool factor and novelty. I do prefer shooting my M38s over them.
One of my M38s is quite accurate.
The other one is....so so.
My M44s, not so much...
