Which 22lr revolver?

I LOVE my S&W K22 Masterpiece. Manufactured in 1955 and obtained from Ellwood Epps about 15 years ago. Still my all time favourite firearm. Extremely accurate out to 50 yds. and it doesn't give a crap about which ammo you're shooting either. HV, sub-sonic, target, lead, copper washed, it's all great. It also had the best trigger - makes you understand why people rave about Smith's. the new 586 I handled last year was a POS in comparison - it's why I bought the GP100 instead. The GP had better lock-up, equal trigger, less barrel gap, etc.

I have a 17. Was considering a 617 for the 10 shot novelty of it. I shot a fellows last week and it's not near as ponderous as a full size 686 - it's a K frame, remember.

The stigma of being a Modern Mass Made Smith sticks to it, however.

22 magnum, however, IS a novelty in my books. 22mag costs as much as 9mm now, so unless you're into stretching your legs with a rimfire handgun, I don't see the point.

What I'm doing with mine... 100Y 22MAG revolver.

I'm happy with my SP101-22LR. Did the Wolff trigger and hammer spring replacement because part of why I have the gun is for my kids to use and the factory DA is unreasonably heavy.

The 617 looks great but I preferred the idea of a "little brother" to my GP100 6" 357, rather than a 22 revolver that is about as big as my 357.

The Single Six makes for a very functional cowboy gun as BC notes. Back when I first got in the game the cool kids were shooting Metallic Silhouette. I figured one day I would be one of the cool kids shooting a heavily modded Ruger Blackhawk with all the bells and whistles but figured I would start with a .22.

That gun shoots way better than the pic would indicate. I put a Hogue grip and a Leupold 2X scope on it...and figured one day I would have the big brother for it in .44 Magnum.

It never happened. Life and clouds got in my way ... and I ended up shooting autos for the most part. Go with the Ruger or S&W - they are both good guns. But if you're on a road as a man with a mission as I was back in the day... stick with it and see where it takes you.

Great setup!

Have to say it, that colt frontier has caught my eye, can't seem to shake that need to have feeling lol. Quite a few for sale state side, I think I'll contact prophet River and order a matching pair in blued/wood ,$$$$ be damned

Where do you get your info about the 617? I have never heard of anyone sending one back because they lock up.

Please explain why they lock up and exactly how many have been sent back.

Graydog

How the fvck would I know how many have been sent back but my guess would be lots . Below is just one of the youtube vids that I found in 5 minutes . There are probably a dozen vids and if you check the rimfire boards you'll find lots of complaints especially of the ones manufactured in the last year . I found this during my research on a new revolver and this is a big reason I ordered to Ruger SP101 . We can't just send guns straight back to Smith & Wesson .
