I was taking a look at a Weatherby Vanguard 30-06 (about 5 years old, so pre series 2) and noticed the internal box magazine length is 3.51", which is considerably longer than the max. cartridge overall length (COL) of the 30-06, which is 3.340".
I was wondering how the 300 WBY and 375 H&H fit and feed in the Vanguard S2 since the max. COL of these cartridges is 3.560" (300 WBY) and 3.600" (375 H&H)?
Looking at the action, I don't see how they managed to do it without somehow lengthening the internal mag box. I'm also thinking enlarging the feed port would be necessary since the opening on the 30-06 (long action) is only 3.335".
I took a look at the 30-06 long action and I'm figuring the longest internal mag length they could fit on the receiver would be about 3.68" (plenty long enough), but some additional machining would be needed to do this. And there would still be the issue of the cramped feed port.
Anyone have a Vanguard in either of these cartridges and care to comment?
