Robarms XCR FAQ post

Well I joined the XCR club today. Picked up an XCR-L keymod heavy barrel in 5.56. It was either it, or the Tavor. Ended up with the XCR. I'd like to add a bottom rail for a grip and possibly a bipod. Running a Vortex Sparc 2 on top for now, it came off my CX-4, which I traded in to the shop on this deal. Put a few rounds through it so far. Thinking of changing the butt stock to an AR style.

So here's a question thats almost certainly been asked before. Is there anyone in canada that can make a custom barrel for the XCR? I'd consider a new .223 barrel if it meant I could get better accuracy out of the gun. It sits at a solid 2.5MOA right now maybe 2 with handloads, but if a custom barrel could knock it down a bit more, into a consistent 1ish range, i'd be interested. also any thoughts on the matter?

Also to Sveinn welcome to the XCR club!

I was getting good results with 53 g vmax bullets and CFE223.
Around the 1 moa mark. XCR-L HB keymod.

i bet herron arms a sponsor here could do one , you will just need a barrel extension , barrel extension is around 100$ on wolverine website unless you want to chop off the one on the old barrel

thought i would share my xcr-L photos. have about 400 rounds down it now and and very happy with the rifle. only had one issue so far during the break in. i had a failure to eject and the fallowing round was crushed by the fired case stuck in the action. since then no issues. throws brass really nice on gas setting 2. had an interesting time trying to get the rifle zeroed with a serious lack of consistency but things came together by the end of the day. not entirely pleased by the grouping but i haven't tried more than one type of ammo (bulk federal/american eagle). I'm running a vortex prism 3x sight. all said and done I am happy with the gun. can't wait to get out and shoot some more!

some cleaning

crushed bullet

I had the exact same thing happen to me a couple days ago. Pushed the bullet back into the casing. It happened 3 times in one day.

Hey guys ive been having some problems with my bolt jamming in the rearward position after the last round in the mag only, never happens in between rounds in a mag only the final round. At first I thought it was the BHO due to some wearing so I filed down the sharps edges. After taking it to the range again I was able to release the BHO but the bolt was still stuck in the rear position. Forward assist does not help because it is jammed so tightly, a nice hard tap of the butt on the ground is usually the only way to release it or breaking open the rifle and giving a tap on the rear of the bolt. I noticed a small chip out of the bottom of the ejector so Ive ordered a new one so maybe that will solve the problem. there seems to be no other unusual wear in any other parts of the rifle. I was wondering if anyone out there has had this problem and what they may have done to fix the problem. thanks in advance.

Hello All,
i have need of some advice, I own 2 XCR's, one L and one M, and had a question on the break in for the M. My L broke in no problem in about 100 rounds or so and i can run it on gas setting 1 with no issues on anything i feed it but my M is a different ball of wax. i followed the same steps as it lays down in the manual and other sources I've read (300 rounds, max gas and completely soaked) and even though it seems to be wearing what i would expect is normal i can't seem to run it without problems on anything less then the second highest gas setting. My question is really for all the other XCR-M owners is what gas setting do you normally run at? I had some limited success with 165gr hornady superformance rounds (Hotter gas?) however due to the cost of the round I didn't sit there and run a 100 rounds through it with that stuff. The other issue I had is when I first bought the rifle new i had to go around and torque almost every bolt and screw on the gun as they were all no better then hand tight. It didn't really bother me I would imagine things like that just get missed sometimes, however, after the first 120 rounds or so i noticed the barrel was loose so i added some locktite to the main barrel retention screw. The barrel continued to wiggle just a bit so I looked a little closer and relaized that the bolt itself was bottoming out on the receiver instead of the barrel/barrel extension like it should. I remedied this by buying a set screw that matched thread and re-torqued/locktited everything into place and that's where I am at, still can't run reliably on anything but the second highest gas setting which (I think) is directly impacting my accuracy. I haven't shot anything better then 3 MOA with a variety of different loads and that being said only 3 MOA on a good day or with high quality rounds. So after that long winded explanation does anyone have any insight on what I might have done wrong and something i can try etc? Thanks in advance.

Hey Drakken, apologies nobody has helped you yet.

First, I don't own an M, never even fired one. Mines an L in x39, she's a high miler ;).
Did you say you bought it new?
Have you talked with Wolverine about the problems? Wolverine is the importer for RA and the best group of gunnutz you'll find.

If your barrel was loose from the get go, it may have caused damage, or caused the gas block to shift. I'd suggest stripping the rifle, cleaning all the threads, and reassemble with a torque wrench. If things don't improve, you'll need to send the rifle to Wolverine.

Make sure the gas block is clean, and aligned 100%. Check the gas hole in the barrel is clean. Make sure the bolt carrier is clear of the ejector. Torque the barrel to 240in-lb, some go 250. Does the recoil spring guide rod collapse freely (can you move the inner through the outer, without resistance)?

That's all I can think of for now. Good luck

Hey does anybody know the thread pitch of the barrel bolt? I snapped mine before the torque wrench even clicked 250 inlb and a machine shop is milling it out but I need a replacement.Currently only wolverine sells it but it's like $27 after shipping for a small bolt =( would rather see if it's a standardized thread pitch. No worries I'm not getting gr. 8 or stainless.

Any chance someone could give me a rundown of all the earlier generation XCR-L issues that I should lookout for when buying one second-hand? I know there were a few big ones but most of the problems were fixed by the time the M models came out and I actually got one so I'm not to familiar with the older issues.

Cheers!

anyone have firing pin issues? I noticed this weekend I tried some 69gr bthp Sellior and Bellot ammo thru my XCR,..and the primers looked to be pierced. No other ammo had this occur including hornady 53gr,..tula 55gr, and PPU 55gr I had tried that day. Thoughts? its a shame if it is that ammo,..but I tried the same ammo in my STI AR, and no issues, although the primer dent was deep using the 69gr S&B. THe AR LOVED the S&B..half inch at 100y benched with a burris 1X4 at 4 X- first 3 shots.

Spare firing pin, as I replaced mine last year. A spare buffer would be good to have. mine appears to be getting ragged. I installed the trigger kit a few years ago when they came available. Make sure everything is tight. THe XCR I bought was used, and had a loose barrel retaining screw/bolt that the seller failed to mention.

I've never had a firing pin issue, though I'm shooting x39 surplus.
My buddy has a .223 XCR, an early model, no problems with his either. No experience with that ammo.

Have you spoken to anyone at Wolverine? I'm curious the outcome here. Never heard it happening before.

Stop using S&B ammo, the primers are too soft. Robinson Arms says to ONLY use NATO spec ammo (hard primers) because the XCR has a fully floatting firing pin. Ask me how I know about soft primers in an XCR lol

I did the ten minute trigger ( same as AR)

And solved all the issues with soft primers and still lights up mil ammo and the trigger is much better
