What do you use your tactical shotgun for?

How do you like the mag fed version? I want to buy one for my wife but she doesn't want the mag fed version, she likes the tube fed one but I might have to grab a mag fed for me as well. I'd like a short 12g and mag fed looks fun if it will feed reliably.
 
My first shotgun was a Mossberg, then a few 870s in different barrel lengths, a Ithaca 37, a Chinese M37, then I bought a Chinese Grizzly.

After 4 years sold the others and love the Grizzly.

I use this 12 inch LOP Hogue stock pump for hiking, camping, 4X4ing, and just to feel safer while in the bush.

Polished up the internals so its smooth, after 100s of slugs it just keeps ticking along.

Can you give details on what you polished exactly, and what you used? One of my Grizzlies is a little rough when the bolt is cycled back, and then put back into battery.

Oh, and does the short Hohue work with the taller sights? I have a spare short Hogue stock that Im thinking of replacing a Magpul SGA with. But Im worried the tall sights will be harder to line up. Also, does your thumb wrap need to change on the stock? Ive heard the short Hogue requires a different thumb placement because your thumb can pinch/slap your nose. Thanks!

Oh yes I have whacked my nose but no biggie, I just move my thumb over a bit. I basically just removed the slide rails, and bolt assembly used a fine emery cloth then steel wool gave them a polish and light coat of lube on the rails.

My other buddys just pounded trap loads thru their guns and things seemed to smoothen out as well. I just like tinkering. Sights still work fine. I like the gripiness of the stock when wet or my hands are sweaty.
 
Monday night 3 gun shoots at our Local GC !! And then a 21" turkey barrel for the season and also for shooting over the decoys during duck season. I still have a 28" for wing shooting this coming November! :) My baby is an 870 Super Mag! Yahoooo :wave:

I got rid of my Hogue short LOP stock because it was ridiculous. Cheek weld is the typical slanted one-size-fits-all for a bead sight. I tried everything imagineable but every round fired was a kick in the face. Multiple range trips, scouring the net for proper positioning, trying multiple guides. I gave up. Its very short but I couldn't comfortably fire the shotgun. I personally know others that found the same problems. You already know all about the SGA and its benefits so you don't need to hear what I like about it, just thought I'd share my experience with the Hogue.

Hogue didn't work for me either. 12" is too close for me on my 590 (cramped)... what I have now is around 13.5" with my Choate and it feels perfect. I believe that the S-LOP Hogue is liked much better on the 870, from what I've read.
 
Mine was on an 870, I skipped over the Hogue for the 590 and went with the SGA. For me it fixed every single issue I had with the factory Mossberg stock. It might work better with a vest or backpack but for me the Hogue was miserable to use.

I use and prefer my Weatherby PA459 w/ 18" barrel for Skeet, Trap and Sporting Clays. I own a remington 887 and 870 both with 26" barrels but leave them at home because they just don't feel as good, and my scores are never as high. I constantly get odd looks and snarky comments from old FUDDs, but I don't really care. I'll be the first to admit that it might be less than ideal for distance shots in sporting clays, but I've learned how much I need to lead with it and have gotten quite good. It's my tool of choice and if anything, it's likely more of a challenge than something more traditional. After thousands of rounds it's never once failed me, and I cannot say that about any of my other shotguns.

The funniest FUDD jab I can recall actually happened two weekends ago at Galt Sportsmens Club where I was shooting a round of sporting clays with a friend. Three old geezers driving the course in an SUV (because you know, walking is just TOO hard!) came up to shoot after us and started eyeing my gun on the rack. One of them turned to me said "oh wow! Now that's a real VICIOUS looking weapon you've got there son! You know what they call that don't you? The old bank robbers special! No sense in trying to hit clays with something like that!".
Not wanting to start a scene I just kind of chuckled and made nice. When I pressed him on the specific advantages I might expect with a more traditional O/U shotgun like his, the best he could muster was that I would no longer have to bend over to pick up spent hulls on the ground. He then proceeded to miss all of the clays which I had hit just moments earlier. About what I expected.

just pay 80$ an buy a shorter barrel from Canada Ammo then.
